I know that the shakes are to shrink the liver before surgery and dont know why I am struggling so bad. I am hungry and eating broth, vegggies, water with crystal light. what else can help me deal with the starvation i feel. Take a bite of toast and feel so guilty-cheated 3 times now and have 8 days until surgery. NOw what, I am so scared that I will screw this all up and one friend told me- I never did the shakes and she had her surgery 3 months ago and she was 20 lbs. heavier then my highest weight. Confused but hanging in there for the long term................

 You can handle totally handle it. This adjustment is in your favor even though it's hard.  It's not worth risking.

 found on the internet:a liquid diet will shrink your liver. Your liver is located right in front of your stomach and in morbidly obese patients it is often enlarged due to overeating of complex carbohydrates. By losing weight and restricting food intake to a basic liquid protein diet, the liver will shrink and be less cumbersome for the surgeon. This will help to reduce the risk of complications or a "nicked liver" during the surgery.

I have to believe you can do it because I'm less than a month away from doing it myself. Hang in there.

I can do it and have to tell myself over and over its all worth it.....the good thing, HAVE NOT DRANK A POP IN 5 DAYS  miracle for me and that was my downfall. Healthy choice meals are ok and not so bad! The shakes are good and I keep telling myself only 9 more days..you can DO IT!!!

I totally understand, I am on day 3 of my 10 day liquid diet and already i cheated, that simply meant for me to go out to the gym and stay there for an extra 1/2 hour. I am hungry all the time and it doesn't help that i don't eat soup and definetly can't stand drinking just the broth. Hang in there, I would say to try working out at the gym it is a sure way to help shrink your liver as well as drink water, and eat the sugar-free popsicles; because i feel like i need something to chew eat trident gum, that usually curbs my appetite. My surgery is Feb 8. and i am definetly nervous because i have cheated but then i read other post online and dont feel so afterwards, just try as hard as you can and remember you are not alone.

Good luck to you;

Hello! I am on day 7 of my 14 day liquid perop diet. I TOTALLY understand the hunger and frustration you are having because I am feeling the same way. However, I have not cheated at all. Every time I even think about cheating I think to my self these two things: 1.I am only cheating myself (how dumb is that?) 2.If I can't handle a 2 week liquid diet without cheating maybe I should not be having this surgery.
This is not a game....this is our life. How important is it to you? I have been doing 4 Advantage carb control chocolate fudge protein drinks a day along with lots of water. Sometimes I eat some chicken broth but I just can't get over the smell. I also find the sugar free popsicles delightful. Hoppe I did not sound harsh. I am just trying to help. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Hello- I already had my surgery on Februray 3 and made it through that phase. All is well now and I lived on the shakes-now I am adjusting to the eating after the surgery. I am taking it slow and in moderation. You have not seen anything yet girl and wait until you after your surgery-I could not tolerate jello or sugar free pudding. I am doing better and lost 23 pounds in 2 weeks. So thing s are going good and hang in there! I FEEL GREAT and surgery was a breeze!! Not as bad as I thought it would be...........

Good stuff! Congratulations on your surgery. I have a question though, you said you cheated and how did it affect your surgery? Did they ever tell if you succeeded in shrinking your liver. Im just wondering how much weight do they ideally want you to lose. as I had posted earlier, I have only lost 6lbs coming from 326. They put me on 3 week liquid diet with Optifast.

This reply is for Sunshine: You lost 39lbs on your 7 day liquid diet? I have only lost 6lbs and thought that was an accomplishment! Good Job.

I was a liquid plan for 2 weeks before my surgery and lost 23 lbs and another 12 lbs. on week after the surgery for a total of 35lb. Lost more then that now but waiting until my scale comes in through the mail for a confirmation. I am one month out of surgery now and feel great. I cheated on my liquid diet but changed that right quick. I ate some  meals that were not prescribed for me but worried the whole time. Each person is different and they all digest differently to food. So if you cheat do it once and regret it or else your surgery can get pushed to a later date.

I have been cheating a little I have been having salads that include tomato and about a 1/4 c of  beans,mushrooms and some mrs dash. I have ahd a total in 6 days of 2 pcs of toast, and nibbles of meat from my kids plates.otherwise its sugar free jello,shakes crystal light chai tea no milk and last night  i made a pack fo french onion soup and added loads of onions to it, no cheese or croutos but YUMMO! I have lost 13 lbs since last friday when I started. I feel pretty good about the situation I could do better if I sould have five shakes a day and less salad. But I would nt ahve enough to last ,me the three weeks.
