I have been having trouble keeping solids down. I am almost 8 weeks post RNY. Everytime I try to eat solids I have trouble keeping the food down. I always get that really heavy feeling like something is stuck and then I puke. Tonight is espceially bad as I have puked 15+ times. No matter how many times I puke the feeling of stuck food never goes away and gets worse till I have to puke again....I am fine with pureed and crackers but add any solids meat being the worst I puke.....really it has become a daily thing here and now with this whatever tonight it is really bad.....does anyone have any advice or suggestions out there cause I would love to hear  anything from anyone

I know what you mean.  I had my gastic bypass on 12/15/09.  I'd like to hear what others say too.  We are supposed to eat protein, protein, protein but chicken, beef, fish and cheese doesn't agree with my new stomach either.  I've been sticking with the protein shakes, protein bars and soups.  Even some soups don't agree with me either.  I know that soups are not supposed to be consumed much because of the minimal vitamins and minerals but it sure helps me feel like I'm not starving.  It seems that everything else that I try to eat doesn't work.  Any help would be appreciated.

Puking is near and dear to my heart. I am sorry you are going through it.  I went through a lot of puking the first 6 months post op from my RNY.  I was so sick, that I was running to my primary care doc often.  He had me do a "swallow study" and other tests.  In the end it was decided that they didn't really know what was wrong with me, and he put me on a very strong anti-nausea medicine called Zophran. It worked well and got me through until the puking seemed to stop mysteriously at about a year out.  However, to this day, I can still puke for no real reason.  Ever since the surgery, I know that certain food can make me puke at any time.  Pasta for example, is a puke food...every time!

I think that after RNY my 'little tummy' is just very sensitive.  I am very aware of how things feel and taste and how they will "go down".  I understand that pepto bismol is a part of my life and I have gotten used to it.  Sometimes I feel like food is my enemy, which is a real switch from pre surgery, when it was my best friend.  But as I learned a long time ago in Weigh****chers..."Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!"

Good luck to you, and I hope you find your magic potion/solution to the problem.  I would for sure involve your primary physician as well.

Good luck,

Heather C.

I hate to say but its nice to know i am not the only one ......I have figured chicken is my puke food...almost everytime i eat it i puke, i still try it once and a while to see if i have made progress in the keeping it down but it never works and up it comes. i tried it last night and as usual i had the stuck feeling and then i had to puke it. i am not forcing it to come up it is coming no matter what. i have also discovered peanut butter is not my friend, makes me very nauseous. i am slowly realising food is necessary to survive but not to live...if that makes sense. I have kind of lost the feeling of always thinking about my next meal and what crap i will eat today, now its will i get in all my supplements and protein. a very different reason to eat. I am so new at this and will have many challenges along the way but i was so ready for this and eventhough some days are so hard i would never second guess my decision to do this surgery....even with my head in the loo once in a while it probably saved my life.....thanks for your reply it made me feel less alone, i got alot of replys but its nice to get one from someone who actually knows the torture of this.
Best wishes Heather

I had my bypass in October and I can tell you I am finally feeling better.  I threw up for roughly two months.  It does get better.  You just need to heal and find what foods work for you and stick with them for now.

You are not alone.
I had my WLS in 1999, so almost 12 years ago.
And it has been almost 12 years of puking. I am so sick of getting sick, that I just get bored of eating becasue I just kow what will make me puke. Chicken is a killer, no pasta unless it is very tiny little stars or shells, very few big veggies , mashed potatoes are awful, no beef at all ever!! ggez i would love a hambuger!! no turkey.
But peanut butter, toast, cheese, couscous, quinoa, lots of granola bars, a 6 inch veggie ..
And almost twelve years later I have kept my weight off!!
Again you are not alone and it sucks!!!
