I am 7 months post op ( bypass)   The last 2 days I have had horrible pains all across my abdomen.  It is worse when I am walking around. It feels like gas pains, but I took GAS X and no relief.  I could not excersise these 2 days and have forced myself to get around. Is any of this normal or should I be concerned.?

Hi,  I am 2 years out and still have gas pains.  The first thing is to figure out what gave you the gas to begin with.  What once gave you gas and what does now are two different things.  If the GAS X (or simethicone) does not help after a couple of hours and walking didn't help, you may want to check with your doctor.  My doctor advises taking Miralax every day.  This helps with the gas and keeps things moving through the colon.  Your gas is, well, stuck in the colon.  Flood your system with as much water as possible, warm herbal teas and choose softer foods for a couple of days, avoiding anything that you know causes you gas.  This is a common problem and does not go away.  If you can allow the gas to come out ("better to bear the shame then the pain")  it is far better for you than taking anything.

Thank you so much- I had quit drinking all my fluids because of the pain, but was told by my nutritionist ( from the dr's office) to drink lots regardless. Just like you said.  I also was told to up the fiber intake- even just an apple a day in the am will help.  I will check the Miralax  also. I had been feeling SO good, losing 87 lbs in 7 mo!  My hair is falling out though and now this gas thing. I swear, I have not had any gas issues since the surgery. Oh yeah, lots of letting out but never the gas buildup in the abdomen.
Thanks for letting me know this will be an issue and I will do what I need to do!

Your doing great having lost 87 pounds already!  I also lost a lot of hair.  Up your protein and your vitamins.  I use Unjury protein shakes which has helped me a lot.

I use a gas pill call Phazyme, it really helps better than Gas X which didnt do anything for me. You can get it from Wal-mart, CVS or Walgreens. Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips.  I seem to have this problem also, in fact it is getting worse the further out from surgery that I am. (now a year and 4 months out).  I was worried that there might be something wrong, but sounds to be the "norm" for us post surgery.
