Help Please!
I know this has been posted many times... but I am 19 years old and 7 months out. I've lost a total of 115lbs. But since I have been able to eat solids, I eat anything and everything! Candy, pop, etc... For the last month I have laid off pop completely, surprisingly easy but the candy and the ability to eat anything really has gotten to me. I am trying mutiple different things to quit this and would love some suggestions. Plus I am working to getting back on track and I want to try some protein drinks, I have no idea what to try. My trainer had suggested that I try the protein drinks that his other clients use when they lift, is that really safe? Things like Whey Protein and the others?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Protein drinks are awesome, and they are filling especially if you make them into a smootie using lofat or fat free milk and ice cubes. Some of the best tastin ones are Wal Mart Whey Protein it's like 15.00, the best one is the one my son found on the website www.teenbodybuilding.com and hit the link for top 50 or http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html and that will bring you right to the powder he ordered by Optimum Oh my god how incredible this stuff tastes! A little more expensive but well worth the cost. Yes protein is very good for you. Matter of fact we are suppose to have about 90 grams a day. As far as the food addiction it is something you will be dealing with for life. Find alternatives for the candy, sugar free candy but go by the serving on the side. Drink water, munch on veggies. I wish you all the luck in the world. Be careful with the candy please. I kept my weight steady for almost 5 years and gave in to my being able to eat the soft carbs, candy, soda and got myself the disease of Severe Hypoglycemia that I now have to live with for the rest of my life and I am now working on losing the 41 pounds I gained. I now have a whole new respect for my pouch and love my life more and it is going to be a journey to get back but I will. You don't want to do that to yourself. Trust me.
Aloha from Maui!
I'm happy to hear that you've given up soda! We call it satan soda in our support group. I'm 5 1/2 years out and understand what you're going through. I, like you love sweets. Carbs are my biggest challenge. I love Isopure zero carb protein powder. It's very versatile. Go to www.kraftfoods.com and print out the recipe for lowfat orange dream cheesecake. Forego the crust, you don't need it. Use all fat-free ingredients plus add 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder. You won't even know it's in there! You can use any flavor of sugar free jello (make sure to use the small box). You can also add protein powder to sugar free pudding. Use 2 scoops for each large box of instant pudding. Put it in a blender and mix the heck out of it! You can freeze it like a pudding pop, or just chill it to set. I also have a recipe for protein poppers I have at home that I enjoy. I'll send it to you when I can. I wish you continued success. Keep up your workouts, drink lots of water, and eat slowly. I hope you're taking vitamins.

SourGirl,
I have found that the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control Protein Drinks taste awesome!! They come in a silver rectangle pre-made container and I'm not lying they taste really good. I use them as a quick on-the-go protein breakfast, however if I have more time I'll usually mix me up a protein shake from whey protein. These EAS ones though are very low in carbs and calories!!! Only 110 calories and only 3 net carbs!! I like the Rich Dark Chocolate or the other chocolate ones .. I think they are like Milk Chocolate something another. You can find them at Wal-Mart in a 4-pack and are cheaper than all the other protein shakes there. Also don't be too afraid of protein all together even those heavy whey protein powders. Usually they run around 25-30 grams of protein per scoop. I mix them with milk cause it tastes better but you can with water, but the point is ... it is recommended to have at least 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh. So if you weigh 130 lbs .. then you should try and get at least 130 grams of protein a day minimum. This will not make you "bulk" up like many fears women have. In fact if you do some type of workout with this supplement you'll start toning up ... but you to bulk up you have to have 2 sometimes 3 times the amount of recommended protein intake.
One other issue you mentioned ... candy.... I think I might have a fix for ya I just stumbled across. Our pediatrician told me to start giving my daughter a vitamin everyday for a little while to help with this infection she got right ... so I went to the store to look for her a multi-vitamin... well I was on the search for those Flintstone vitamins right .... well I found something better!!!! Multivitamin Gummy Bears!!!!! I picked the bottle up and looked on the back ... it had an adult dosage!!! Two Gummy Bears!!! I also needed some Vitamin D so I bought a bottle of Vitamin D gummies too! Adult dose for that .. yup two bears .. so I get two multivitamin gummies and two Vit D gummies. Let me tell you these taste exactly like the real thing .. no difference!! So what I do is when I get a sweet urge for candy I go take one of those. If I make it through the day without needing one then I eat 4 gummies (my daily dosage I need) just to reward myself for not eating sweets. Also if you eat all 4 at the same time ... I feel kinda full... like I just ate a meal ... seriously ... So I hope maybe that trick will help you curve your candy urges!!! Let me know how it works for ya ... keep up the good work!!

You can go to Miejers and buy different samples of protein and spend $1.29 for each packet (at least in Michigan that is the cost). I blend the powder with two ice cubes and then add berries and a pack of Spenda or add extracts (few drops is all you need). They have powders there that range in 20-23 grams but the 23 gram one uses two scoops of power instead of one, Good luck.
Hey, I can't answer specific questions because I know nothing about the RNY (if that's what you had) but I just wanted to tell you that I relate to wanting to eat all the junk. My cravings are unREAL. I hear stories all the time about people who's tastes completely change after WLS and I am so jealous! My cravings never went away.
Keep working at it. Good luck!
Jenn
I have the same problem... got back to drinking sodas - and not even the diet ones! I was able to tolerate candy even after surgery... I eat smaller amounts but gradually increased over the last 3 years after surgery. I started looking for a new meal plan and the one that I found that worked for me is Herbalife - I order mine from www.jraymall.com
I hope that helps!
