If you're able to get enough protein from your food, then that's fine.  You only need protein powder if you can't get enough from food.  But there is no way I could get enough from my food that early out.

What brand of protein powder made you dump?  Was it high in sugar?  I would try a different brand.

hi!  Looks  like  u just discrube my story.Im also day 9 post op and have exactly the same problem with my protein. But, in addition i cannot eat soup yet. So basicaly im starving, which I dont mind, Im not hungry at all. I talk to my dietition and she recommended me to try apple souse between protein shake. The apple souse is OK, but doest help with shake per se. So, this is my story. Please, let me know if you find out something interesting about it. If I know anythink, i will let you know.
All the best

At 9 days out I was still on all liquids.  I lived on milk, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese sugar-free puddings and plain low-fat yogurt for a couple weeks.  My favorite once I was allowed purees was ¼ cup of mashed potatos mixed with ¼ cup of ricotta cheese.  Luckily, I've only had 2-3 dumping episodes in a whole year and I'll be the first to admit deserved them all.

I had my surgery a month ago and I feel I"m not getting enough food in but I have no appetite for food.  I like the slim fast High Protein drinks, the powder kind that is, the already made drinks are just nasty.  Good luck and hope things get better for ya.

Dear Rebecca,

I could not manage the Carnation Instant Breakfast that I was told to rely on initially.  I found that Chobani fat-free yogourt was the solution for me.  The plain is 100 cal and 18 g. protein.  You can add flavorings (honey, maple syrup, jelly, vanilla, mushed up banana, etc) to it.  In the beginning it took me more than an hour to eat one container.  I am about 14 months post RnY now, but I still eat a  lot of Chobani.   If it is not carried where you live, there are other Greek-style yogourts like Fage--try those.   With a scoop of protein powder[see below] its 38 g. protein per serving!

PS  Nearly every protein powder I tried gave me the runs.  I finally tried In-Jury.  It is only whey protein--contains nothing else--and works for me.  You may have to try various kinds.  In-jury was a brand I saw advertized on this site.

Good luck in your journey!

Try Soy Milk or Lactaid.  Soy Milk is high in protein.  Or Chobani Yogart is high in protein too. Some of the best low sugar protein shakes are on http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html  they taste excellent!!! 24 grams of protein per scoop! Cottage cheese is good also.
