Liquid diet question

I am just starting the process for the weight loss surgery. My surgeon told me I have to lose 40lbs before he will even scedule my surgery. I plan on having the RNY done when I am able to have it. My surgeon told me I can do the liquid diet to lose weight faster. I was just wondering, is potato soup part of the liquid diet? I love this potato soup I found and it only has 200 calories per whole can. I usually eat a lot of crackers with it, but I know I will not be able to. One reason, it is loaded with calories and the other reason is it is not a liquid.

I have not started the liquid diet yet. I tried before and failed. I realize now why I failed. I was drinking juices and water all the time. And because of that, I was always hungry.

This is what I was thinking for my liquid diet...... I don't know what to do for breakfast yet so any suggestions would be great.

Lunch and Dinner
1 can of potato soup (200 calories prepared)
16 oz glass of V-8 (100 calories)
16 oz glass of Light V-8 Smoothie (100 calories)

This way, I will still get my veggies and fruits for the day. And I believe I can get full from that.

Snacks
Jello 1-2 cups Sugar free jello (10-20 calories total. There are 10 calories per cup) The cup is already premade. I also bought a lot of sugar free jellos to make, which are also 10 calories per serving.

I also have 3 boxes of chicken broth and for each serving, which I belive is 8 oz or 3/4 cup is 5 calories. Would it be back to make the broth a little thicker with corn starch?

I was also thinking for breakfast to have some beef broth, v-8, v-8 smoothie.

Can I use a banana and strawberries and blend them with some 1% milk and make like a shake outta it for breakfast? Or maybe flavored oatmeal that is watered down?

I am looking to start this liquid diet ASAP if I can get some advice on if I am doing this right or wrong. I have only seen my dietician one time and that was at the evaluation. I have an appointment coming up, but I don't remember when. I called and left a message for them to call me back with the appt time.

Thanks everyone for your time and responses!! It is very much appreciated!!

I didn't have to do a liquid diet until the 2 days before my surgery and now that i am post-op since Nov.3rd.

I will list all the things my doc said was ok because that way you'll have options and wont get discouraged so quickly and since you haven't had the surgery yet, you should definetly ask your dietician about portions sizes, calorie intake, multivitamins and protein shakes.

Crystal Light
Herbal Tea
Diet Gelatin (The ones you mentions in your post are perfect!)
Water!!!!
Diet Twister
Wyler's Diet Lemonade
Vitamin Water 10
Sugar free Kool-Aid
Broth/Consomme
Ocean Spray lite juices
Diet Tang
Diet V-8 splash
Fruit 20
Powerade Zero
Country Time Diet Lemonade
Propel Water
Decaffinated Tea
Sugar Free Ice Pops
Miso Soup
Diet Snapple
Acqua Extra
Smar****er

I know its a long list but im hoping that you will find something that you like and will keep you motivated. Also get started on doing more walking or cardio excercises so that you can lose pounds quicker.

Good luck with everything and keep us updated =)

What's funny about this is that a lot of things you have mentioned is stuff I already am drinking on an everyday basis. Thanks so much for the input. There are some things on this list that I did not think of which I believe will also help me.

I don't have to be on the liquid diet, but my surgeon told me that it may be a good thing to do to lose the pounds quicker. He said I should lose about 20lbs without a problem if I do the liquid diet for 2 weeks.

Just would like to say thanks again for all the info!!!!

I read on another person's post to put the potato soup in the blender with milk. I've been drinking this lactose free fat free milk. It cuts out a lot of the calories and it's easy on my stomach. I get mine at Walmart, but I'm pretty sure you can get it anywhere.
Cream of Chicken is pretty good too. They make it in the Campbell's 'at hand' which is really nice if  you are on the go all the time like I am.
Also, you can do the shake thing you were talking about with the bananas and strawberries but I would suggest adding light yogurt to the shake and/or they make this ice cream called Guilt Free (it's diabetic approved) that I also found at Walmart. The good thing about the milk and ice cream is that you don't have to sacrifice on taste. Good luck to you!
