Four days after RNY surgery and I'm antsy and unsure.

Maybe it's because I'm a foodie at heart, maybe it's because I used to spend hours cooking fabulous gourmet meals for friends and now I can't (I was overly excited about making popsicles earlier today), maybe this is something everyone struggles with, and I'm not alone, but it's been four days since my surgery and I am going NUTS with the liquid diet!  I am already sick of beef broth, chicken broth, vegetable broth, Crystal Light, SF Jello, Applesauce...I could do mushy/blended foods, but this is hard!  I have organic tomato soup and blended asparagus soup but apparently can't eat it because of the acidity.  Anyone got any good ideas to help my culinary boredom?

Also, I can't tell if I'm full or not yet, but I do notice I can drink about 4 oz at a time...is that too much?  I don't throw up but I do burp ocassionally.  I've realized that no matter how much I "studied", researched, read and planned before my surgery, I'm now a little lost.  I'm not getting enough protein because I'm not sure if I'm drinking too much or too little and I could use a little advice.  Any takers?  :-)

You can't tell if you're full or not because when they do the surgery, they cut the nerve that signals your brain when you are full.  It takes a couple months for that to heal.  So you just have to measure your food and eat the amount your doc or dietician has told you to eat.  If you eat too much, you will vomit.

You can drink as much as you want to.  Liquids will pretty  much just run right through your pouch.  You can't stretch out your pouch or anything by drinking too much.  If you take big drinks, it might feel bad going down, though.  Sipping is probably best.

You need to get your protein in, at least 60 grams a day.  And at least 64 ounces of liquid.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do for variety on the liquid diet.  Can you have cream soups?  Or are you on clear liquids?  You could do V8 juice.  Or are you not supposed to have tomato?  I was allowed to have tomato stuff.  But all docs seem to have different plans.

Thanks guys!  I've been struggling really bad...but I think it's going to get better soon!  I'm now 6 days out, and I've lost 15 pounds, yay!

I'm following the rule "if it can go through a funnel at room temperature, you can eat it" and that's made it easier.  I found some vanilla ice cream that is only 5 carbs and is soooooooooo good...really vanilla-y.  I also bought some pea soup that is DIVINE and has NINE grams of protein!!!

So thank you both for your wisdom, I'm so tempted to move myself to the mushy food stage, but I'm not brave enough to do that.  One more week...one more week...

I'm 5 days out and feeling the same way! I've been cooking up meals in the crock pot for my husband which I never do really. He's normally the one to cook but I've been missing food and this way I can be around it intimately without ingesting it and making myself sick. I've steered clear of these meals but I did try loose low-sugar oatmeal yesterday - I was surprised that I could eat the whole package which is like 1/2 cup and have been enjoying the odd saltine chewed up well. I'm trying SO hard to stick to the rules but ugh, I'm ready to move on to those later weeks already. This is harder than I thought because I feel great so I assume my pouch does too. All I know is that I feel maxed out on liquids and ready to enjoy some week two fare. Anyone else out there suffering a bit?

I'm a week post op myself and know how you feel.  This liquid diet is a lot harder than I thought it would be!  My doc told me I could have Cream of Chicken, etc types of soups which has saved me from the broth (HATE broth).   I've just been trying really hard to stick with what they gave me and try to make it to the next phase.  And I think that's really all we can do.  Have you got any protein powder you could add to your drinks and such?  You might try that to get a lil more protein in your diet.

Wow I definitely feel the same pains as all of you.  I am 2 weeks out tomorrow and OVER the liquid diet.  My Dr. said I could do some runny potatoes if I made it with chicken broth...that helps some.  You all sound like you get to jump up after two weeks and I am on all liquid for FOUR!!!  I am only half done now but I am down 30 lbs (a few of those are from the liquid preop diet a few days before).  I agree that I feel so fabulous that I assume my pouch does too.  I hope that it gets better when these drain tubes come out....which is Thursday YAY!!!  I am craving really healthy foods for the most part and can't wait until I can eat normal food and show how committed I am.  I think you just have to remember that you must walk before you can crawl and that these liquid days probably help drop pounds better than anything.

my expirience with liqued diet is a little different. I was told to drink 64 oz of liquid per day, whi*****ludes water, diet snapple, broth, decaf. tea or coffe etc. and 3 oz. of protein shake 3 times a day for 2 weeks. O, btw , im 9 days after gastric by-pass. So, my bigest problem is a protein shake, which makes me sick with bad nausea. That is why, during this 9 days the best  I could do, is 3oz twice a day, but more often, 3oz once a day.  Probably, that is why im soooooooo weak, ican not even walk more then 1/4 mile. Dont know what to do.
Anyone???
