Im looking forward to being able to eat again and I was wondering if egg salad and chicken salad is a possibility considering they have mayo in them.
Is mayo too high in fat to eat in these that it will make you sick?\

Does anyone have any ideas what I can eat in the 2nd stage-thicker liquids?  I've been able to eat sf pudding w/ protein powder and cream of chicken soup and no problems going down.  Problem is I can't THINK of anything to eat besides this so I just haven't eaten!
I know this is so bad, but I seriously need help with ideas for easy common stuff we can eat, no fancy recipes to cook.  I'm a single mom and my food won't do it for my daughter and I HATE cooking, so I've always done the box meals or we eat out.
This is totally throwing me for a loop!

Hi and congrats on your surgery. I can eat chicken and tuna salad with light Hellmans mayo.

I don't see why egg salad wouldn't work as long as you use light mayo.

When I was on thick liquids, my doctor allowed mashed potatoes (runny with skim milk) blended veggie soup, tomato soup with skim milk, campbells healthy request cream soups (mushroom, potato etc strained) Have you tried sugar free fudgesicles? They are awesome

Here's 2 easy recipes for when you get to mushies/soft-solids

Easy Chicken Salad (2 servings)

1 chicken breast (4oz)
1 tbsp dill (or sweet) relish
1/4 small Onion
2 tbsp light Hellman's mayo

Boil chicken until tender, rinse under cold water and shread
Mince relish and onion in chopper and add to shredded chicken.
Mix in mayo and chill for an hour.

Man, the idea of mashed potatoes is making me high!
Today is 1 week from my surgery and I've been doing cream of chicken soup, pudding, and tomato soup (with water) for 3 days now!

I just felt so sick only doing broth and jello I couldn't stand it anymore and I HAD to eat something a bit more substantial and it helped the nausea go away.  Didn't bother my stomach and made me feel better, so I figure it's ok.

I go in to get my drain out tomorrow (yay!).  I'll tell him I've been able to do the 2nd stage already, so I'll prob. stick to it another few days/week and try on the puree stuff.

I'm really surprised that there aren't a lot of really intense therapy courses for bariatric post-ops because I'm finding myself having so many food emotions popping up that I never thought I'd have before.  Mainly the coming home and freaking out and thinking "What the hell did I DO???? I want my stomach back!"  I was so scared and just about suicidal with the thoughts that I'd made this HUGE mistake and rushed into it,etc.  Reading all the bad stuff people deal with FOREVER after surgery made me really mad because NONE of it was ever mentioned by the doctors or the seminars or classes they make you take.  The only negatives they tell you are the risks of surgery itself that pretty much applies to any surgery procedure.

I'm sitting on my deck right now and I smell barbeque and my stomach started growling and I'd kill for a big pile of potato salad, deviled eggs, and some ribs and baked beans!
Can we eat baked beans ever?  I thought maybe if they don't have a ton (or any) sugar, they'd be ok for us to eat.
I've read some people eat pizza (2 slices!) and barbecue and all sorts of things I would've thought we could never eat again, so I'm just wondering if it's true!

How long has it been since your surgery?  When you eat chicken salad, etc., do you eat it on bread?  CAN we ever eat bread/sandwiches again?  I make my chix. salad with canned chicken, so I can put it in my chopper and scramble it so small it won't harldy be there, and I'll do the same with the other ingredients too.
Thanks for your answer about the mayo, you made my day!

Regarding dealing with your post op diet Forever, remember that you only really have today.  Work your program today and plan for tomorrow.  Don't worry about how you will be able to work the program tomorrow.  As many 12 step programs put it, go one day at a time.

If you need more help staying on your diet, I suggest that you get a copy of the Beck's Diet Solution workbook.  It's not a diet book but, rather, it provides numerous strategies for staying on a nutritious diet.  I'm almost 5 yrs post-op and lost 50 lbs using it this year.

Use the early stages of your post-op period to learn how to eat properly.  You will eventually be able to exband your choice of foods.  However, you will not be able to eat the amounts that you did prior to surgery.  Be careful about snacking.  That is one way to sabotage your efforts.  If, like me, you are a food addict, you may just simply have to avoid some foods.  Otherwise, you can eat uncontrollably since eating an addictive food may spur a binge.  It's better to develop good habits now.

I have pureed tuna with Miracle Whip, cause mayo is too high in fat and Miracle Whip isn't that bad. I have also pureed beef stew, chili from Wendy's or the canned turkey chili is good. Mashed potatoes, I know high carbs but the doc said you should only be able to eat a little, and I did, they are very filling. Try Mac & cheese pureed.  I did a lot of label reading and chose soups that were high in protein. It's hard in the beginning but I didn't have an apetite so it wasn't too bad. Hang in there! It is definitely worth it!!

I have been told that some of us can eat bread etc. but not until a bit farther out from surgery.  not everyone can tho.  i can eat some crackers.

i eat my tuna and my chicken salad and even egg salad without bread.  i can use a cracker or two now, but wasn't able to till recently.

if you eat beans you may be able to eat some refried beans with cheese melted on top, yumm.  yogurt is also good for you and tasty.  i can't find the greek yogurt that everyone else seems to love so i just buy sugar free lowfat yogurt and enjoy.

I would suggest you talk to your dr. or nutritionist about what you are eating and what you want to eat to get their clearance.  dont push thru the stages too quickly.

good luck

 chicken salad sounds SO GOOD!
Im afraid to eat it though...afraid the mayo might make me sick.  I could do refried beans, I just haven't bought any.  I've got blackyeyed peas, white beans, pinto, mixed, etc. in cans and they're really pretty good.

Use plain yogurt instead of mayo

I had surgery on the exact same date you did. Two days ago, I made my own tuna salad with light mayo and had no problems - but I did chop it up/puree it using my little mini food processor thingy so that the consistency was really smooth.

Tomorrow, I'm going to try a canned chicken, light blue cheese dressing, and Frank's Hot Sauce fake wing concoction. I'll let you know how it goes!

Did you eat your chicken salad on anything, or just by itself?  I have the stuff to make it, except for the mayo.  I was at the store last night and wanted to buy some, but I wasn't sure what kind of mayo to buy!
