I had my RNY on 4/27. My weight loss has been fantastic, I am less than 25 lbs to my goal weight.

I am living on protein shakes, fage yogurt and ricotta cheese.

Pretty much everything else makes me so naseous that I have to make myself throw up and it lasts for hours and hours.

I have successfully eaten a litte a couple of times but more often than not its not worth the uncomfortable nasauea.

Any suggestions on what i might be able to eat?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Kevin

I suggest you contact your surgeon.  You should be able to eat solid food.  You might have a stricture.

My RNY was on 6/16/09, my weight loss has been slow although I have a lot more weight to loose then you. I have been experiencing the same problem you have, upon meeting with the surgeon last week and having an upper GI , I have a anastomotic stricture. This week I have a consultation with a gastroentoligest , I'm going to  have to have an endoscopy proceedure  where they  run a tube down my throat  to the blockage then insert a balloon and blow it up until they stretch the blockage, the surgeon told me some times you need a couple of these procedures to stretch the stoma. He also assured me that it was only a minor set back and really no big deal. Easy for him to say right. I think you should call your team and let them know whats up! Good Luck!      Lyn

Hi Lyn, I did have an upper GI done and there was no obstruction. Not sure why this is happening. I was able to eat a little last night and when I tried to eat the same thing today I got very ill for several hours. It is quite frustrating. Good luck with your procedure.

HI couldnt wait to repond to this one!!!

I also had difficulties with this... my surgeons advise after ruling out possible problems was each meal time take 2 bites of solid foods then revert back to the soft stuff for the remainder of the meal... also to make sure that i was attempting stuff like chicken/tuna/egg salad stuff... this should be done for about 2 weeks or so before attempting to eat more solid food volumes...  another reccommendation that has helped in later years has been a strict enforcement of not reheating foods....If I cant eat it cold or room temp then dont bother with leftovers...

Hope these help you!

Hi Kevin
wow what a weight lose! I had my surgery 7 weeks ago and only have lost 30 lbs. But I have the same problem as you do. I wish I could eat more solid foods. Nothing the Dr said has worked

I had my surgery july of 2007.  I also have the same difficulty, After having a repair for a perforated ulcer two weeks after my RNY.   I have had numerous endoscopys to see if there is a stricture which after opening it up once they say it is just fine.  I am able to drink without difficulty but eating is another story.  I try to get in at least one meal a day... but usually regret it after eating a a few bites.  Just keep trying...and keep in mind...Never reheat your food in the microwave.  It breaks down the proteins differently so it is more difficult for our stomachs to digest.

Good Luck.
