I can't believe I lost weight this summer
I've been posting here about my successes with the Beck's Diet Solution as well as my inability to stay abstinent from addictive foods this summer. Well, I had to see my cardiologist for a regularly scheduled 4 month visit yesterday and knew I had to be weighed. I felt like I had gained 10 lbs, but when I got on the scale I found out that I had actually lost 2 lbs.
The cardiologist told me that I had lost 17 lbs since I had seen her in April. I'm healthy and I'll get back to recording my meals in a notebook and keeping track of calories and protein grams consumed. I don't exercise. Officially, since 01-29-09 I've lost 52 lbs and that's 4 years post op from my RNY revision.

The Beck's Diet Solution is not a diet. Rather, it is a book that provides various strategies to enable dieters (even people who should be on lifetime diets or food plans) to be able to follow their nutritional diet. Dr Judith Beck, the author, is the director of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research at the Univ of Penna. Her father, Aaron T Beck, MD, started cognitive therapy back in the mid 50s.
Cognitive therapy has you examine what you are thinking . You become able to identify Sabotaging Thoughts and to conuter them with Helpful Responses. But, that is only one of the tools used in the Beck Diet Solution. It contains probably every successful strategy to enable you to follow a diet. Dr Beck states that most people ultimately fail on diets because they have never been taught how to work a diet.
I freely admit that there are certain strategies that I simply won't do. For example, one of the strategies is to plan your meals in advance and then to not vary from that plan. But, my wife never knows what she's going to cook in advance. I know what portions of various foods I should be eating by using the Food Addicts Diet in Kay Sheppard's book, Food Addiction--The Body Knows. So, I plan My portions in advance but not the individual foods. My bad.
As to a little further astonishment at my weight loss, I don't exercise. I can barely walk. I have trouble with my knees and use a rollator ( like a wheeled walker with a seat). I've also had problems with bones in both heels. I can't do aquatic exercises due to extremely sensitive skin.
Despite my exercise problems, I do lose weight when I eat enough protein and limit my carbs and calories.
