Eating too much and Unsure of proper calories
I eat a lot of veggies and salads, with 2 tablespoons of dressing and no more. Half a bag of salad mix, plus a handful of grape tomatoes, half a cucumber, 2 T of dressing and 10 croutons is only 340 calories--the same as a candy bar, and a lot more filling. It takes a lot longer to chew and consume, so our bodies and brains actually have time to get the message that we're full.
As for calories, it's always the same whether you are fresh post-op or far out: Multiply your current weight X 10 if you are sedentary (most Americans are) to get how much you can eat every day and not gain weight. 190 X 10= 1900 calories per day.
But, if you want to lose more weight, you have to decrease that amount. Each pound of fat is 3,500 calories, so if you decrease your intake by 500 calories per day, you'll lose a pound of real weight (not jus****er weight) per week.
Start tracking your food intake in a diet journal, set a goal for weight loss, and write down the calories of everything you eat. It will help you feel in control. I also recommend getting a book of food counts, so you can look up calories of practically anything.
Remember, you have power over what you put in your mouth. Examine WHY you want to overeat--is it truly that your body is hungry, or is it HEAD HUNGER because you are feeling sad, bored, lonely, depressed, discouraged, fat, ugly, whatever.
Fat people often use food as a bandaid for these feelings, while healthy, normal-weight people do not. They use food mainly as fuel. The thing to do is try to change the mindset--that's something you and I and all of us will have to work on throughout our lives.
