I can't help drinking when I'm eating!  I get full just as fast so how bad can it be?  And I can't stop drinking Diet Coke  ( I limit one per day) but today I had a regular coke  Anyone else going through this?

well, everyone feels different about this topic I'm sure. I admit i am a addicted to soda myself. I only drink diet. I found that if I drink soda from the can it has a lot more carbonation and I get sick and even get some chest/stomach pains. I can however drink a large diet coke from McDonald's over about three hours with no problem. If I gulp it then I am just asking for trouble. I am almost three years out of surgery and had my first soda at 9 months out.

They say not to drink while you eat either but every since surgery my mouth has been so dry. I find food very dry too. I take small sips to help the food go down and I usually only drink tea or water. Maybe its because I have a thyroid problem and it is more difficult so swallow some things. I dont know.

just try not to drink the sugar sodas for you are just adding calories

I  tried drinking and eating at the same time it was very uncomfortable for me so I opt to eat then wait at least 15 to 30 min then drink. I also tried drinking diet coke I found myself craving it on a regular basis however, I stopped drinking pop b/c I found that I could eat more food and I ended up gaining 20 pounds. Now I"m back to basics I wait 90 min before drinking and I have dropped 8 of the 20 pounds that I gained.

I was told no carbonation - ever - diet or otherwise. It can ruin your surgery.
