almost 3 years out of surgery and getting bad habits
I am truly worried. I am almost 3 years post RNY and I am way off track right now. I have just turned 30 and have started eating all kinds of junk. I have been really stressed and have always been an emotional eater. Exercise is a challenge for me as well. I am guilty of being lazy and then I beat myself up about it. Has anyone else been off track and if so..how did you get back on track..I was originally 256lbs and am now bounce around between 125-127. I am terrified to gain weight or go above 130. I would appreciate any helpful advice. I feel really alone right now. My boyfriend is supportive but is one of those people that can eat whatever they want...erg..
We've all been where you are now--at least those of us who come to this forum. Don't beat yourself up over eating mistakes. You developed bad eating habits for years and it may take a while to overcome them. That is, you may eat well for some time following your post-op diet and then slip or have some eating problems. The key is to get back on track as soon as possible.
I've see the light by using the Beck's Diet Solution. Look at my prior posts in this forum. I'm still not perfect and doubt that I ever will be in following my diet, but I can now pick myself up when I slip and get back on track within a matter of hours or a day. In the past it might have taken me weeks or even months to get myself straightened out. So, I do understand your fear. As far as emotional eating, most of us are in that category also. Beck's will teach you new ways to deal with your emotions other than by stuffing your face and trying to stuff the feelings. Besides, we know from experience that just doesn't work.
Beck's comes in a hardcover and/or a workbook. Even the author says that you don't need both. I recommend the workbook for post-op people. The primary basis for the book is cognitive therapy, but the author does incorporate just about every other strategy known for staying on a diet. Beck's is not a diet but will work with any nutritional diet. I suggest just using your post-op diet unless your doctor now has you on any specialized diet. The book is aimed at anyone trying to lose weight, but I feel WLS patients are in a special class. She suggests that you not start a diet until Day 14 of her plan (Beck's consists of 42 Days or lessons over an optimal 6 week period), but I say to just continue with your current diet but don't blame yourself for any eating mistakes until Day 15. Hopefully you'll be beyond the blaming stage by then. Besides, it just doesn't make any sense to suspend your diet for 14 days which could lead to disaster with us.
If you have any questions about Beck's after reading my posts or even after getting it, just send me a PM or post your question on this forum. This goes for anyone else reading this.
I started using Beck's on01-09-09, was first weighed on 01-29-09, and have lost 50 lbs since then. Oh, I got Beck's from Amazon.com but it is available at most popular book stores. Bob

Hi. I just got back here after my 3rd anniversary this week. I was not one of the people who lost a lot--only 70 lbs., and now I've gained back 10, so I'm feeling pretty badly. I would like to know more about BOTT group--don't know what the acronym means. Am very anxious to get some moral support as I seek to reestablish good habits.
Thanks
