Diahrrea and gas

I have read a couple of posts on this but still felt I needed clarification.

I am about 2 1/2 weeks out and when I first started my protein shakes, I would get gas and diahrrea immediately after finishing one. I talked to my nutritionist and she suggested I try protein isolate. I did and it seemed to help. I didn't get diahrrea and gas immediately after finishing them.

The problem is that I still get diahrrea and gas every day. Sometimes it's all day and other times only once a day. Is this normal for some people in the beginning or should I be looking for a different (soy?) protein?

Thanks a lot for the help!!!

Hi,

I had gas/diahrrea off and on initially and still do.  It's not everyday, but does happen.  Welcome to the loser's bench!!

I am 12 weeks out today and still have issues w/ gas. Tried to figure out what it could be from, but I will even have alot of gas right away in the morning, it is better than it was first out but still worse than before surgery. I am learning to just live w/ it, I think it is kinda common for people after WLS not about diahrrea though??!!

This has been the best decision besides marriage and kids that I have ever made!!

Yeah, my body is definitely more gassy than before surgery.  Diarrhea for me is related to fat.  After I first had the surgery I had diarrhea constantly until I started the protein shakes.  Once I started protein I went to normal bowel movements.  I find now that if I eat too much fat and or  not enough water my poop is like sludge.  It wants to leak out but on the other hand doesn't want to push out, sorry TMI.  If I eat healthy (meat, dairy, veg, fruit) then my poop is perfect.  Bananas, beans and dairy give me lots of gas.  Bananas especially, it's like I can't fart enough, lol.

I was thinking about trying Beano.  Anyone tried an antigas pill?

Thanks for the replies. I was drinking this tea in the evening that was causing it along with the protein shakes. It is better since I stopped but I still have it. Ho hum, maybe I'm going to have to accept that my daily movements are going to be loose. This is so graphic sorry everyone.

sometimes when i have alot of gas i cant tell if im full or if its just the massive gas bubbles in my belly. Being really early post op this has not helped me in wondering if i might be eating too much. I never go over 4 oz, but my surgeon told me i wasnt likely going to be able to get even 4 ounces in. So very scarey

Getting enough soluble fiber will help too.  Although fiber can cause gas if you have the diarrhea it helps absorb the liquid.

google fiber and diarrhea

I drink a nutritional drink that give 12.5gm fiber and 15 vitamins and minerals.  If you would like to try some email me I'd be glad to share information.
