WOW! I'm finally losing again

I've been weighing myself weekly since 01-29-09, but have hit a couple stalls recently.  When I got weighed on 05-14, I only lost 1 lb and when I went back on 05-22, I had actually gained 2 lbs.  I didn't like that and was a bit discouraged but I continued to work with the Beck's Diet Solution and to keep a daily food log.  I've used various excuses to not get weighed over the past few weeks because I didn't want to possibley face either a stall or weight gain.

I got a major shock.  I've lost 15 lbs since 05-22 and I've now lost a total of 50 lbs since I first got weighed using Beck's on 01-29-09.  I  post these results here to encourage everyone to keep plugging onward despite any problems you may have.  I emphasize logging your food intake either manually or online.  You all know that I'm a strong believer in using the Beck's Diet Solution.  It does allow for eating mistakes -- or slips--that many of us make.  I tried keeping my diet perfectly but found that I began to slip in mid-May.  The miracle that I rec'd is that I didn't sink back into my food addiction.  Rather, I was able to read over parts of Beck's, reflect on them, and get right back on the program.  If you have a food addiction, you know that's simply amazing.

Can you please explain what the Beck's Diet Solution is?

The Beck's Diet Solution is a behavioral modification program that enables your to follow a nutritional Diet.  I had my original RNY on 11-14-00 and a revision on 01-21-05, but I was unable to stop my out of control eating due to food addictions.  I had tried everything I could think of in the past to overcome those addictions.  I'd had it by this January, and I posted on the Main Forum asking if anyone knew of a book that could help me.  A woman who is a food addict in remission replied that I should get the Beck's Diet Solution.  She's a behavioral therapist and said that she uses it with both individual and group sessions.

I've written about Beck's a lot during the past year.  I suggest that you look at my other posts on this forum or link to my Latest Posts.  Look for ones about Beck's--there are a lot of them.  As I've said many times before, I'm not an expert and I do make eating mistakes.  One of the great things about Beck's is that it teaches you how to be able to have an eating mistake or slip and not be destroyed by it.  You can get right back on track.  Wow!  In the past, before Beck's, I'd totally fall apart when I had a slip.  Now, I just read Beck's and get back on track.  This book is worth it's weight in gold.  Bob

I had my surgery January 05 I was 318 and got down to 150 and had maintained my loss until March of this year I have gained 20 pounds. I was considering a revision.  But now with all the information out there on the book I think I am going to try that first.  What was the revision like? did you insurance cover it?

I had an endoscopy in the summer of 2004 where they found that I had a staple line disruption in my stomach.  They said that it was as if I had never had an RNY.  I had gone from a low of 335 up to 420.  That is, I was still morbidly obese.  My revision was in getting a complete 2nd RNY except that it was section diffferently than the first one.  I don't understand the technicalities involve and I definitely don't remember them.  My insurance covered me just like they did the original RNY.

From the information in your post, I doubt you'd get a revision at this point.  You simply don't have the minimum weignt requirement, i.e., you're not at least 100 lbs overweight.  I don't know about your comorbidities.  If you only regained 20 lbs, you shouldn't get upset.

I think you would do well to try the Beck's Diet Solution.  First, look at what may have affectied your routine this spring that led to your sudden increase in weight.  If you understand the reason for your sudden weight gain then you may be able to start losing weight quickly.  It's good that you recognized your problem so quickly.  Beck's can give you many strategies to make your post-op diet continue to work.  Bob
