VSG HELP!

Hi everyone,
I am new to this site, just saying hi. I'm Sarah, and had the VSG on 4/4/09. I had the surgery done in Mexicali, Mexico and have been pleased with the results. I wasn't overweight to begin with, but had the surgery to control my raging appetite because I was hungry all the time. I did it more for my peace of mind than anything... I exercised a lot before the surgery. Now, 2 months post-surgery, I've noticed I am more hungry. I have started running again, and I'm consuming abut 1800-2000 calories per day comfortably, but it seems like a lot. I used to eat 2500 plus. But it seems with the surgery I should be eating less. I don't know.... I do eat and drink at the same time. Any tips on how to "Stay full" are greatly apprectiated. Thanks!!! ))) PS- I am trying to upload photos but this thing is saying they are "too large".

To help with this, you can work at your protein intake.  When you have protein at a meal time (versus carbohydrate) it tends to keep us fuller longer.  Carbohydrates tend to digest quickly and go through stomachs quicker.  Have carbohydrates in smaller amounts and make sure they come from whole grains.  Fiber also helps with satiety so be sure to get your fruits and vegetables in as well.  A good rule of thumb is to aim for three meals a day which are focused on protein, vegatables, and some fruit. You can always drink a protein drink between meals to keep you feeling full.  If you chose to snack its good to keep it small (ie. light yogurt, turkey jerkey, sliced luncheon meat, string cheese, small handful of fruit).

I hope this gives you some ideas!

I'm only almost a year post op and I thought my caloric intake was higher than most at 1400 or so a day.

What you're eating matters. If you're so hungry, I would guess that your carb intake is high and that simple carbs are a problem??

Put lean protein in your mouth first.... always.
Drink your water.... all of it
Stay away from simple carbs (pasta, rice, white bread, potatoes, sugar).
Avoid artificial sweetners (possibility they can make you hungry and gain weight).

If you're eating a lot of veggies, lean protein, some fruit, and some high fiber low carb bread... you really should not be experiencing significant "real" hunger.

Head hunger is another story though. I would not have had surgery if this is part of it for you. I'm shocked a doctor did the VSG since your were not overweight.

Good luck to you.

Meg
