I have been rny post op for 5 1/2 years. I have spent the last 2 years totally eating the wrong things, doing whatever I want. Now I am at a place that enough is enough! I have regained 45 lbs. I don't know what to eat any more. Can some one direct me to a diet meal plan that will effectively take off the weight I have put back on and help me get healthy again. I have found several diets for post opt and maybe like a few months after, but what do I do now, over 5 years out???? I feel stupid, and like I have blown it totally. I know my tool is still there, but can someone teach me how to use it again???
Thank you so much

What kind if surgery did you have? You might get more feedback if you post this on the main board or in the surgical forum. It doesn't look like this one gets much activity.

First of all, I'd suggest that you go to the Diet and Nutrition Forum on this site.  It's not set up like other forums.  Secondly, you probably know that I've been espousing the Beck's Diet Solution which works with cognitive therapy and any nutritional diet.  The basic essence of the book is that we fail at diets because we don't know how to follow them and I'm not being facetious.  I usually advise our members to follow the diets their doctors have given them.  However, my problem is with Food addiction and I follow a Food addict's diet suggested by Kay Sheppard in  her book, Food Addiction--The Body Knows.  After finishing the Beck books ( I got both the hardcover and workbook although that's not necessary) I found that they give her website at the end of the books.  She has a new book with a diet to go along with the program;  her website is www.beckdietsolution.com .  I don't recall the name of that new book, so you can take a look at her website.  Bob

Hi Shannon,

You can certainly work at getting back on track to help get the weight off.  You'll want to go back to some basics here:

1. 3 meals/day, keeping portions small.
2. Aim for 70 g protein/day, <40 g carbohydrate/day, and ~800-1000 calories/day.  (Focus on protein and vegetables at each meal).   Use www.thedailyplate.com  to track your food intake.
3. Get 64 oz fluid in from water and protein drinks.
4. You can drink a protein drink between meals to keep you feeling full and to give that extra protein you might need.
5. Exercise.  Any increase in exercise is going to help.

If you find you are snacking and grazing throughout the day, stop and go back to 3 set meals/day.  Get rid of any foods that aren't helping such as cookies, crackers, candies, chips, ice cream, etc.  You can definitely lose this excess weight it will just take some steps in the right direction.

Good luck,

Thank you so much for posting the tips for getting back on track.  I am struggling with eating right and this guideline will certainly be a help for me.

Thanks again!
