2 mos out Food Issues
I am two months out and I had a stricture 1 month out.
I have had horrible time eating.
I have lots of issues eating soft foods and transitioning into regular foods.
I take one or two bites and then I get sick and have to throw up.
I can eat mashed potatoes and soup and one or two pieces of sushi. Protien shakes I can't take they immediately make me nauseous. (spelling?). I did try instant breakfast today I could get down 2 or 3 ounces and started to feel sick but didn't throw up. I threw the rest away.
I keep trying things and even go back to things that didn't work. I tried chicken cooked many different ways usually comes back up. Tunafish sometimes is ok in 1 or 2 ounces.
I went onto eggfaces website for help. I bought many different protiens. I am almost afraid to try them cause I hate being sick everytime.
I am dying for salad. I am a vegatable addict. I make homemade veg soupn getting the vegs as soft as possible but have been craving salad bad !! I see some other RNYers with the same or later surgery dates having salad and other foods just not sure why its not working for me.
Any advice ?

I had the same prob. I was eating to fast, and not chewing well enough. On the protein shakes what are you mixing them with? I found out the hard way that I have become lactose intolerant after surgery. I now make shakes with light soy and they taste good. My favorite is Syntrax Chocolate Truffle. I can't eat tuna, eggs and only sometimes chicken. Thin sliced deli meats are much easier and will ease you back into food. Hope this helps!
I am about the same time out from surgery and asked my nurse what to do and she suggested ground meats...hamburger, turkey burger, ect...she also said that for some reason Wendy's chili seems to do the trick...she thinks its because the meat has been in the fluid for so long that it starts to break down a little before hand but that was the advice given to me. If you are craving salad which I have been the same way too, make a little salad with fresh mozz, tomatoes, and balsamic vinegarette, as long as you are adding protein like the cheese and maybe some kind of chopped up meat you should be ok...jus****ch how fast you eat and how much. Hope this helps.
All I can say is me too! No stricture though.Sometimes eggs are ok , sometimes tuna. Had Protein shakes that were ok but are nasty now. I do SF instant breakfast with lactaid.Wendys Chili is fine so are refried beans.KFC grilled chicken is ok , or chicken cooked in soup(really soft). I relized I need to weight my food ( I eat 1.5oz servings) I need to take my time. I actually ate corn on the cob and some string beans the other day. No deli meat . I tried a slice of ham and some applesauce one day and all was good 5 days later could not tolerate it.When in doubt take a srpe back to soft foods. All the best!

i AM HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS AND WHATS MORE DEVASTATING IS THAT WITH ALL THAT "NOT EATING" I HAVE ONLY LOST 1 LB IN TWO WEEKS. I AM SO DISCOURAGED. I CAN'T TOLERATE CHICKEN AT ALL. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT CHEWING REALLY REALLY WELL HELPS AND GOING BACK TO THE BASICS WILL AT LEAST HELP YOU GET SOME NUTRITION.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

Did you have another EDG to see if you have a stricture again? I was told you might have to be dilated a couple times, I am going in for my second EDG and maybe dilation in a week. I am almost 10 weeks out and have been throwing up most everything for 5 weeks. I can keep pureed foods down better but don't want to live like that forever!! Good luck and don't feel alone there's more of us out there struggling with each meal!!
Luckydawg,
Sorry to hear about your eating difficulties. I had no luck at all with instant breakfast(gave me diarrhea immediately) but what saved me was the plan Greek-style yogourt. One hundred calories and 18 g protein. In my area, we have several brands, but I like Chobani the best. If it goes down okay, you can try adding stuff to it. My nutritionist suggested adding some fiber-rich cereal to keep me "regular." I even mix it with pieces of plain herring to get herring in cream sauce without the sour cream calories.
I am so glad that I found this post. I will be 2 months out on Thursday and have been suffering the past few weeks with severe acid reflux. I thought that's all it was, but then I started having problems keeping anything down. I would get the horrible gas and acid reflux, and then I'd end up vomiting everything up.
This weekend was the breaking point when I started throwing up after drinking only a few sips of water.
I went to my doctor today, and low and behold, I have a stricture. I have to go back next Tuesday and he'll do the scope. I'm a little nervous...because everything that I've read makes it sound like this will be the first of many...
Good luck to you all!
