I am a month post-op from RNY....what am i supposed to eat? I see people suggesting oatmeal, toast, mashed potatoes, all things I've been told i cant eat. can i have crackers with my tuna? or bread? can i have a salad? can i have cut up hot dogs in my chili? I'm so scared to eat anything! I've become paranoid. I am hungry, but i have no idea what to eat. and what about seasoning? I ate a cucumber slice with pepper and garlic salt, and it was delicious! can i have raw veggies? and salt? agrh!!! don't know what to do.

At one month post-op I was on soft foods. Yogurt (greek), cheese, chili (wendy's), mashed potatoes, refried beans, oatmeal, tuna. I had wasa crackers with my tuna. I was not cleared for raw veggies until my 8 week follow up appt. Seasonings are fine. You can also use sugar free syrups to add flavor to yogurt, protein shakes, protein ice cream, etc. My dr's office gave us general guidelines to follow post op. Did yours not do that? Do you have a nutritionist in the office? If not you should find one to help you iron these questions out. Perhaps your drs office has some recommendations.

I did recieve a list of basic foods I can have, and on that list was fat free refried beans, ckn/tuna salad, eggs, fat free yougurt, skim milk, soft cheese, and bean soup. I've noticed alot of people talking about oatmeal, I asked my dietician about it and she said not to eat it.  I was wondering since so many other including yourself have mentioned it, it can't be bad, are you eating it plain? or are you putting in milk? or sugar? sugar substitute? I am going to go get some yougurt today, can i have it with the fruit? should it be low fat? or fat free? as far as the chili, would hormel be a good substitiute? and the wasa crackers where do i find those? what kind of protein drinks would you suggest? I know I've asked alot of questions, and thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. I do have a nutritionist but she is almost impossible to get in contact with, so again I truly appreciate the help you are giving me!

You can drink protein shakes, you just have to find good ones.  I'm 5 years into the Lap-Band and I had many nasty ones.  I found one that is pretty good and you have to mix it with other things to not taste like a protein shake.  Try this:

Eas Vanilla Powder
Skim Milk or Lactaid milk (what I use) or soy milk (8oz)
A Banana (or any type of fruit you like)
2 packets of splenda (I like it sweet)
maybe ice (I don't really use ice)

Tell me if you hate it!  I think it's pretty good.  I don't feel like I'm drinking a protein shake at all.  Maybe you won't be able to drink the whole thing in one sitting, but sip it throughout the day.

Also, I find that Kashi products have protein in them.  Try readiing the label's and eatting them too.  I like them.  :-)

Here are some others that have protien and are soft enough for you at this point:
Ricotta cheese (mix it with light whip cream and you have ricotta cream.  YUMMO!)
String cheese
Cream of wheat (put some pumpkin spice and splenda in it...YUMMY!)
Fiber one products (some have protein in them....read the labels... I like the pancakes)
Light Yogurt
Try Lactaid products if dairy makes you sick or take a lactaid pill right b/f you eat.  I have dairy probelms that developed after my surgery.  I know about this.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck.  :-)
