I hate food, I don't know what to eat, and I need help!

I'm nearly 6 months out from my RNY, I have been succuessful but haven't lost anything in nearly 2 mos. I'm starting to feel like i did before surgery, NOTHING sounds good, I hate making food choices, I'm avoiding the grocery store, and seriously have panic attacks thinking about going. I'm running out of food at home, and have eaten out a few times for lack of something better. I know I"m not eating enough, certainly not enough protein, but I'm having serious anxiety, at this point, if someone said they would feed me with a feeding tube, I'd take it! I KNOW, that sounds TERRIBLE!

I dont' know what to do, or where to start, I'm sick of food, I tried finding some new recipes, but nothing sounded good.

I feel like I need medication, I'd rather eat nothing at all.

I know my blood sugar as bottomed out a few times, because I've gotten clammy and passed out. Sometimes, I'll just do a RTD shake for lack of anything else.

I dont' feel "physically" hungry at all, it's all in my head, like I crave something salty, or crunchy or chocolate, or bread or whatever, FOOD is my enemy and I dont want it to be that way.

I've made an appointment with my therapist.

347/194-back up to 215/189  48lbs lost before surgery!

I do the same. I keep carnation shakes and a can or two of chilli beans around for the weeks I dont feel like any real food.
It has all the protein and vitamins I need and its easy to have a glass or two and add extra protein with the chilli beans and some shredded cheese.

You should be on a schedule at this point.. Have you consulted with your surgeon regarding this issue??

for your salty/crunchy craving you should try some of the protein chip, I love the kay's Natural humm right now I have the Jalapones Honey mustard those are really good or the Chef Jay's protein puffs ( I have the ranch)..

I ate alot of chili around 6months out w/a dallop of sour cream and cheese.  you need to make sure you are getting your target protein range

What are these protein chips and where do you purchase them?  Do they have allot of carbs?

they dont' have a lot of carbs, just make sure to add them to your daily count and you should be fine.

I like the Kay's Natural Jalapeno Honey Mustard, they use to make the Chiptole mix and those were awesome.

I usually get them at Bariatriceating.com

I am nearly four years out from my revision from RnY to Duodenal Switch. Food has become the enemy. Nothing ever sounds good. I only get cravings for Italian food for some reason and it doesn't always agree with me so I avoid it. I never know what to eat. I also don't think I eat enough and I can tell because my energy level gets really low, I am prone to depression, and I roam the kitchen getting frustrated because I can't find anything to satisfy me.

I eat a lot of cottage cheese with fruit, cheese from the deli, I chose frozen foods by their protein content, and rice and beans. I even eat a can of corned beef hash because of its protein count. I find some soups,  if you eat the whole can, have at least 12 gr of protien, sometimes more. Particularly Progresso. A little salty sometimes but I figure the protein is more important. Protein is a big issue for me because most of the products make me very gassy, even mixed with water.

I am actually anemic for the first time in my life and my cholesterol is actually considered below norm. I'm like you - I reach for the crunchy foods. Right now it's popcorn (which is a big no-no) and crackers. And sweets, although that is the easiest to control.

I guess I'm saying you are not alone. I hate food and wouldn't eat if I didn't have to. I know just what you are going through.

You can drink protein shakes, you just have to find good ones.  I'm 5 years into the Lap-Band and I had many nasty ones.  I found one that is pretty good and you have to mix it with other things to not taste like a protein shake.  Try this:

Eas Vanilla Powder
Skim Milk or Lactaid milk (what I use) or soy milk (8oz)
A Banana (or any type of fruit you like)
2 packets of splenda (I like it sweet)
maybe ice (I don't really use ice)

Tell me if you hate it!  I think it's pretty good.  I don't feel like I'm drinking a protein shake at all.  Maybe you won't be able to drink the whole thing in one sitting, but sip it throughout the day.

Also, I find that Kashi products have protein in them.  Try readiing the label's and eatting them too.  I like them.  :-)

Here are some others that have protien and are soft enough for you at this point:
Ricotta cheese (mix it with light whip cream and you have ricotta cream.  YUMMO!)
String cheese
Cream of wheat (put some pumpkin spice and splenda in it...YUMMY!)
Fiber one products (some have protein in them....read the labels... I like the pancakes)
Light Yogurt
Try Lactaid products if dairy makes you sick or take a lactaid pill right b/f you eat.  I have dairy probelms that developed after my surgery.  I know about this.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck.  :-)
