Overeating---and very upset about it!!!
I've decided I'm going to ask my PCP for a refferal to a nutritionist and I need to get info from Jan on how to get medicare to pay for Curves. I need to kick this eating thing in the rear and FAST!!! I snack wayyyyyy too much and I know we're not supposed to at all. For the majority my snacking is healthy but not always.
So I looked up Overeaters Annoymous and found one in Columbia. I'm going to go next thursday night it starts at 5:30 if anyone would like to go with me. That's April 30th. (depending on gas money)

I would not say food addiction is any harder or less harder to overcome than the others you listed. You go to nearly any restaurant and there is liquor, you go outside and someone is smoking you get a whiff of it, and drugs... drugs you have to take on and off with illness and pain.
I have a food addiction and I simply decided not to eat like I did pre-surgery. I still have foods that aren't good to eat but I limit them and I make myself satisfied with the amount I do eat.
One thing I did was I removed and do not buy foods that I know are easy to snack on, we get foods that need to be prepared. My wife and son take their lunch but they keep the goodies in the car and toss one in their lunch in the morning. Out of site out of mind. I also stopped carrying money with me, no more 'pit stops' to grab food/drink. I take a drink with me, 24 ounces of decaf tea or water so no need to get a drink.
I think you are on the right track trying to get to an OverEaters meeting. Maybe see a therapist or a counselor.
One last thing, not to upset you or sound rude, that is not my intention. You do not need a membership to get exercise, I have a sister that thinks she must have a gym membership to lose weight. Getting off the couch helps, take that 20-30 bucks a month and use it towards the therapy. I was horribly embarrassed about walking outside, listening to people drive by and yell at me but I figured I was in this for me and I ignore them. I know that is easier said than done and it crushes your self-esteem. Maybe go to the local school and walk the track in the evenings. Other than sports teams, after 5 and the kids are no where near school, normally even a sports practice is over by then.
Good luck with your issues and I am right there with you, food is such a hard thing to combat but you can overcome it! Don't let it beat you, you are stronger than you think, after all you did go ahead with the surgery, that takes some major commitment.

I agree on the excersise.....I started walking at the park track.....it's free and there are otheres and you know what the frist time is the hardest, after that you jsut pat yourself on the back that you actually got up went out there and tried!!!
I had tried everything before this. I've seen psychiatrists, psychologists, MSWs, addiction counselors, hypnotherapists. As far as groups, I was in OA for 20 years and gained 300 lbs -- yeah-- I know they'd say I didn't work their program. I even tried Adult Children of Alchoholics although my parents are not alcoholics but my grandfather was. None of it worked.
The Beck's Diet Solution will work with any nurtitional diest. I suggest people here use whatever pre-op or post-op diet their surgeon has given them. The program lasts 6 weeks and you can work it yourself. If you need any help--any of you--send me a PM. I'm not an expert; rather I'm just further along this program than you are. This program is fantastic!!! Bob
