Hello,
Please post as many replies as you can. I am almost two weeks out and very nervous about gettin my protein. I've tried the pre-mixed shakes and fruit juices. I've tried Unjury unflavored powder and a host of other flavored powders. All of them are just gross to me (Too gross to get down). I know the importance of protein. Does anyone else have this problem or suggestions/solutions for me?

 Stapoo,

I mix up the protein powder (the best-tasting I've found is at Costco - the EAS Premium Protein) with some sugar-free pudding and freeze them in pudding pops.  You can also freeze them in ice cube trays but I don't like chopping them up as I try to eat them.  It's the pudding added to the mix that makes them more palatable.  Maybe you can try that in your regular drink too!!

good luck!!

When I first had my surgery I lived EAS carb smart shakes and on Danon Light N Fit yogurt with added unflavored protein. I also found at GNC liquid protein . It is 18 gm protein for 3 tbsp . I added it to a glass of water with some crystal light or walmart's brand of s/f juice. The liquid protein comes in orange and punch flavor. Sometimes I doubled it up for 36 gm protein in a glass. It went down much easier than some of the "shakes" . Be careful with the fruit juices with the sugar in them.
Good Luck,
Sandy

Hi,
I used Unjury unflavored and made jello and then froze it in minature ice cube trays.
I really concentrated on finding other avenues to get my protein as soon as I could. Have you tried mixing the unflavored in cottage cheese pureed? Also I have heard that applesauce works well, with unflavored protein mixed in it.
I realize it is too early for you though, but  I make homemade beefjerky and use that as my main protein source snack.
Good luck and congrats on being a healthier you!

I have not had surgery yet, I am doing the 6 month weight management (just finishing) but I have been using the EAS at Costco.  I happen to like Choc so I use the Choc and mix it an additional 2 teaspoons  SF Nesquick and 1% milk.  I was afraid to try protein but really like the EAS, I just hope after the surgery I can still keep using it with no issues.

I went out shopping for protein powder last night. My first stop was GNC, they wanted me to buy a jug over $60. All men in the store, they ended up getting me to spend $9 on two samples of protien powder, but it was to increase mass in less reps.

I them went to vitamin shoppe. They said they had a lot of bariatric patients go there. They clerks were 2 females, 1 male. One of the females walked me through the store, gave me a couple of options. Had me try a powder in the store, Nector Cherrry (tasted like liquid jello at strenghth, will be ok watered down. I could smell the protein powder, but could not really taste it. The jug cost $35 for 36 shakes. The female also gave me 2 samples of other protein powders to try.

Also, I was very surprised. Vitamin Shoppe has a great return policy. If a customer purchases an item and hates it, they will give a full refund, with the redemption of the unused portion. ''

Also Kelloggs K2O water can be found at the grocery stores/Walmart, it only has 5 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber but tastes good.

I hated most protein drinks after surgery.  They all tasted like butt!  The other horrible thing is that you cannot drink it fast.

Finally I found 2 that I could get down that weren't unpleasant.  The first is AchieveOne.  However it is really hard to get.  They can't seem to make enough or don't care to make enough.  The other is the Nectar line in the fruit flavors.

Still to this day I can't manage the vanilla or chocolate flavors of the protein drinks.  I am anxiously awaiting the next available supply of AchieveOne (online at Bariatriceating.com).  Until then it will be Nectar (Vitamin Shoppe).

I also snack on Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe bars.  You may not be able to handle the bars as of yet, but keep them in mind.  You can find them at Wal-Mart and Target.

Hi

Hope this works fine for you..Many years ago I became convinced of the need to take vitamin and mineral supplements.

I have in my possession a list of protein powders that were analyzed for quality by an independent laboratory. One more thing, you could even mix protein powder into other foods to
up the proteincontent and improve the flavor.

Thanks

Hi there. I am almost 4 weeks out and I have had the same trouble. My husband is almost a year out and he just gaged the protein shakes down. The shakes are making me so sick that I can't even force them down. My husband has been very, very worried about me and my nutrition. I'm not getting much at all. I've switched brands several times and I just can't get them down. I thought I was doomed... until today.

First off, this is just a suggestion and you should let your Nut and Dr know what you are eating if it's different than what they have instructed. At this point, any protein is a step in the right direction.
Google or get on the Food Network and look up "Tofu Smoothies." I know this sounds gross but the food network had some humdingers and RAVE reviews from folks who hate or who had never tried tofu. I am so encouraged by this new found information. I remembered your post, and had to share this with you.

Hope this link works: http://www.foodnetwork.com/search/delegate.do?fnSearchString =tofu+smoothie&fnSearchType=site

Tinker with the ingredients to fit our requirements fir sugar/fat so that you don't dump. Choose low carb fruits like strawberries or blueberries and test them out. Find what works for you. I hope this helps.
