Chocolate addict
I had rygb on 12/18/08 and I have lost 130lbs and could not be happier. I am in a size 8 and currently weight 150 pounds. I have been experiencing an increase in appetite and am not able to eat foods I wasn't able to right out from surgery. I have always loved sweets and the fear of dumping kept me a way for a while, but over the holidays I indulge in my old time favorites and found I really don't experience dumping syndrome other than the occasional headache and nausea. I haven't been able to put the sweets down ever since. The first thing I think of when I wake up is chocolate, or right before bed I want something sweet. I need to stop before I ruin all of the work I have down over the past year and a few months. Any suggestions to help get back on track? I know what I am doing is wrong but something takes over and I can't help myself...
Hi,
We had surgery only a few days difference from one an other, we lost close to the same amount of weight, we weigh the same size, and lastly we are dealing with the same dilemma. Do you want to buddy up and help support one an other? I want to continue the good path and I think that we need support. I have to get back under control !!! I teach aerobics, exercise all the time, but if the food does not get fixed, what's the point...

Hello Melissa,
Thanks for responding to my post, I am glad to see that you can relate to me. That is awesome you teach aerobics, I would like to get back into a workout schedule but its so hard. Im in my senior year of college and its crazy. Anyways, I would love to help provide support to you. I feel like I need to get my food undercontrol before I actually start gaining weight from it. I haven't gained any yet but I know that my body wont always work like this. Have you ever heard of the show "I can make you thin"? The host talks about, mind over matter in regards to weight loss.. ha if it was that easy we would all be thin. I haven'****ched it yet but a friend burned me a copy of a couple of episodes, I am sure you could find it on you tube. Some food for thought. Talk to you later- Ashley

Do you like protein shakes? I found one, IDS Multi-Pro, which has a flavor called Belgium Chocolate. I just crave it daily, but that is not a bad thing. Very good chocolate flavor and seems to take care of my chocolate craving.. Terry (PS - What an amazing amount of weight to lose in such a short amount of time. Congratulations!! Remember though, if you do what you always did, you will get the same results you had before) .
HI there that's great that you lost the weight and I can understand how scared you are of gainning it back. I am 5 months postop and am always hearing about people gaining back the weight that's why I work extra hard at the gym. Anyway did you talk to your surgeon or dietician it could be a lack of something inyour system that it is trying to compensate with. There may be something in the chocolate itself that your body needs. If not when are you craving and what mood are you in when craving may also help find a solution. Try and fight it, why you crave chocolate reach for something else like sugar free gum, pepermint to have a fresh clean month or brush your teeth may help too. I use to do that befor my rygp, it helped when craving. Good Luck and never give up on the new you she's worth every effort. Size 8 or chocolate tell yourself that and you will forget the chocolate. Dont let your little devil win let the angel take over Take care.
Oh wow, its a relief knowing im not the only one struggling with this. I am almost 2 years post op and still havent reached my goal of 160. I have 12 lbs to go and it wont budge. I guess its because I do eat chocolate almost every night before bed. I dont know what is wrong with me. I have always LOVED chocolate and have let it get the best of me. Once I realized I could eat it without getting sick its been a down hill battle. Thanks for sharing your story b/c it helps me in alot of ways. I am looking for support and motivation and look forward to being back with all my OH buddies who never let me down in the past. Im ready to beat this and I know we can. I just need to find recipes and good food options to divert the cravings in my mind. WE CAN DO THIS!!! ps. congrats on all the weight loss. You are doing awesome!
130 lb since 12/18? That's fantastic!!! I'm having a similar problem. I am hungry a lot of the time and craving chocolate, which is really odd since I never particularly liked chocolate before my WLS. I've had only 3 episodes of dumping, only one of them bad enough to make me think twice about what I was eating.
