Do not want to eat

I am 2 months post op, and I do not have a desire to eat. When I try to make myslf eat, I find that I am uncomfortable with how my pouch fills with food in it especially meat because of the full feeling. Will this pass? My family is starting to "worry" me because they fill that I am not consuming enough. I make sure I get my protein in, and that usually keeps me full. Please help if this is incorrect, I do not want to do anything that will jeopardize my future success.

You had surgery to stop eating and lose weight.  At two months, you do not need to be eating meat if it feels to heavy, don't eat it.  Get your protein shakes in and wait a few weeks to try again.  Most people eat between 400-800 calories a day for the first six months.  I am close to two years out and a meal for me is a piece of meat about 1" x 2".  I cut into tiny pieces and chew well.

Your family is comparing you to someone who did not have surgery.  You have a stomach the size of a grape and they have a stomach the size of a 2 litre bottle of Coke.  It looks like you are not eating enough, but you need only a tiny amount of food.

Thank you for your reply, for I too am in the same situation.  I am 5 months postop and have a hard time eating.  I have my protein shakes for food just doesnt do it for me anymore.  I eat the occasional salad and love my vegetable wheat crakers but the rest just doesnt sit well in my pouch and I usually have to make myself sick to get the food out.  That's when I enjoy my protein shakes alot, get all the nutrition I need without the nausia.

I FOUND MY PEOPLE AT LAST !!! I hate food, I love the thought of it..but can't eat it...I have a hard time with chewing things into oblivion...and i'm upset that even a very light cracker with hummus makes me sick....I feel like I'm not eating enough and that I never will...it's not the amount but for example....it was a scorching 90degrees one day and all i had to eat was a strawberry smoothie made with splenda, frozen strawberries, ice, and cranenergy drink....for lunch didn't want to eat but ate a half of a small banana...and for dinner...ate 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and about 3 oz of lactaid....

so i'm seeing my doctor on may 1st for my 3 month follow up....i'm scared that i'll never be able to just have a meal...even for my pouch...

Hi

I think prevention is better than cure. I mean to say that we should take care of our body to be healty before affecting it.

Foods are not good or bad. While it is true that some foods have more nutrients or are more fiber-dense than others, all foods can be enjoyed.

So its better to take mineral nutrition content food that gives you more energy and adds beauty..

Thanks..

I am a little over 2 months out also and have the same problem. I am just not hungry and the thought of food at times just turns my stomach. I've also noticed when I do eat, I get VERY tired. I actually have to go lay down for a little while. I make sure I do protein first, followed by veggies and fruit, no bread, so can't figure that part out.

It is quite frustrating and sometimes I am afraid I am not getting as much nutrition as I should, but am hoping in time this will improve.

Good luck!

Be patient- better times are coming. About the eggs, I still do not eat eggs and the smell still makes me nauseated. I also have a problem still with chicken. I try chicken evert week or 10 days to see if I can better tolerate it and at this point I can only tolerate it if it is already shredded. I ate a lot of mashed potatoes at this stage because I could buy instant and decide the flavor of the day. I think that though at this stage your most important thing is to get your protein. I still do not have an appetite and many days my relationship with food is still not good. I take each day for what it gives and I concentrate on my protein and I let everything else take car of itself. About the nutrtion, remember this is a malabsorptive surgery and thus nutrtion as you once knew it is gone. Your suplements will take care of that. Just take one day at a time, and learn/remember everything that your body is telling you like when you first get full, and how your pouch fills when you are sated. You will be a succes

I guess its common then I too am having trouble wanting to eat, I am 4 weeks out and still in what my dr. calls stage 2 diet, beans, scrambled eggs, "pureed" anything.....pureed anything and eggs make me gag at the thought, and I have had so many refried beans I am ready to gag on that one too, I mostly am getting by on protein shakes and yogurt....I keep trying to eat things like rotisery chicken very small bites and chew to death but I end up in pain and making myself throw it up.

I hate to say it but right now 1/4 of a cheeseburger sounds soooo good but would probably send me to the hospital.  or a few bites of a cheese enchilada....something with flavor and texture.  I am supposably 2 weeks away from some better choices but I dont see in 2 weeks how I will magically be able to eat more solid items.....I will wait and see I guess, just glad I am not the only one going through this.
