Newbie....Dose the hunger always come back?

I feel that the only thing  keeping me heavy is hunger. So if the hunger comes raging back
2-3 or 4 years after surgery.....it  seems,  to me, that surgery (with all its negative
attributes like malabsorption) may not be such a great idea. What do you all think?
Would you all still opt for surgery? Or am I just getting the Pre-surgery jitters?

I would have to say it just the jitters. I am 3 years post in April and have only had doubt the first day when I was feeling like crap. When I feel like I am grazing, I always go back to the basics and really watch my protein. When I start my day with a shake I don't feel hungry or find myself temped. I would graze all day before my surgery and have done some but keep it in check once I find myself doing this. I only weigh myself once every three months now. I mainly keep check by the way my clothes fit. I have that last 15 pounds that I never got off to still work on. But I have never looked back since and wish I had done it 3 years earlier like my doctor wanted me to. I lost some hair but it doesn’t compare to the weight I lost and how great I feel and look now.  For the first time tried on a uniform I wore in the Marines 20 years ago. And only by boobs having fit issues. I was thrilled and to this day I still am so thankful I went and had this done. I still get nauseous when I eat something that is too fatty or sweet, but that’s the tool STILL working. I can eat anything I want; the difference is now I know it has to be only small amounts. I one thing I have not gone back to is soda. Good luck, you will not regret it.

Hi there, I'm new to this board as well. I had my surgery in March of 2004 - can't believe I'm about to celebrate my 5th year anniversary! I went from 368 (the night before surgery; I've been higher, however) to my lowest weight after surgery of 138. I am currently maintaining at 150 and trying very hard to get back to 140, where I felt really good. On the issue of hunger, I can only speak from my perspective and if it resonates with you or helps in any way, I'm glad - we're all here to help and support one another: I am an emotional eater. It's how I got to be at 401 lbs. at one time in my life; it continues to be my greatest challenge today. So far me, it's not so much about the hunger but more about how to manage the emotions that trigger the hunger. Five years out, my experience is that I can eat anything - anything - without a problem. If I graze, I'm in trouble; if I stay focused on a healthy lifestyle, I'm much better. This isn't rocket science - you must adopt new lifestyle behaviors: healthy eating on a daily basis, and working your body in a manner that will keep you fit and strong. These things I must do or I will regain the weight. At this stage of my journey it is a huge struggle - but I am optimistic about my ability to continue on my path toward optimum health and passionate living. Am I hungry? Yes, every day. Who isn't? I hope this helps and best of luck. Maureen
