I had RNY on September 20 of 2008 and have been able to eat more than i expected for a while now. I just ate an entire lean cuisne for lunch, over 8oz. It took about 15 minutes to eat.

Does that sound like a lot of food to you this short out? What is going on? What is suggested? I don't want to screw this up too.

If the lean cusine meal was mostly soft -- that sounds normal to me.  At four months you should be able to eat 8 ounces of a "slider" food.  Now, if you said you could eat an 8 ounce steak, that would be unusual.  You should check with your doctor or nutritionist.  Are you following the food plan?  I also find that some days I can eat a certain food or a certain amount of food, and the next day I can't!  You might be just having a good day, so be careful not to assume you can eat 8 ounces of food all the time.

I'm eating most of a Lean Cuisine for lunch every day at work and I am 8 weeks out.

I agree with RockysMom.  You can eat 8oz. slider foods.  You should be concerned as your appetite will start to come back around 9mos (maybe it is already, what do you think?).   For some of us, we must weigh and measure all the time.  We must "dry up" our foods when we see sliders going down in volume, this surgery doesn't come with a guarantee of a full feeling and a stop button.  Get rid of the slider foods, the gravies, anything that makes things go down easy.  You don't want "easy"! you want to feel the food in the pouch and be uncomfortable so that you stop at the appropriate portion size.   That's a reality I am learning the hard way as I've put back 30+lbs.  Today is my 3rd surgiversary and I'm pissed, not ecstatic.  I am still down 100lbs so yes, without this surgery I wouldn't be in this spot but I see that 30lbs as a HUGE hurdle to overcome now and I thought I was done with hurdles.

What are slider foods?

"Slider" foods are foods that soften in your stomach and slide right on through. You want to avoid them. You want as little food as possible to slide through you. Pretty much think of it like this...if it will dissolve in water (bread, pasta, rice, etc) you DO NOT want it!

Hope this answers your question...

I have always thought that I ate too much for haveing RNY.  My weight loss wasn't as fast as some others that post here.  I went to my Dr. and said that I think I need a lapband around my gastric bypass.  (He seemed to have a problem with that

Anyway, what I was told was to try to slow down my eating.  Make the meal last for 30 minutes.  But eat what you can.  That way, down the road when you hit a plateau or even find yourself gaining, you have something to cut down from.

I have to say that I read on one of the forums that someone could make 3 meals out of a single weigh****chers frozen dinner.  Think about it...if and when they need to make an adjustment what do they go down to?

I had lap RNY 7/08 and can not imagine being able to eat 8 oz. I think everyone is different but I can not come close to that. Although I do not eat a lot of slider foods, ( foods that go down easy and can be eaten almost w/out effort).
I have not tried Lean Cuisines or anything close to that. I basically eat my protein and then try to get fruit in for a snack.
One of my biggest battles is remembering to eat slower. I know there are people who say the ABC's in their head betwen bites, others count to 32. I always forget to do any of that stuff. Usually I am in a social setting when I eat so I am too busy yacking LOL.
Hope this helps!

I actually had my surgery Nov. 6th so I am right around  you, And I actually came on here with the same question! I find that certain days, I feel like oh my god I am eating so much, I screwed it up! I stretched my pouch and then other days, I am reminded I cannot eat very much. I think it all depends on what it is. I still cannot eat a good amount of any meat and actually stick to a lot of fish because meat makes me nauscious - but the softer something is and the more water something holds (ie vegetables - salad) I can eat more of it. So I think we are normal :)

I am in agreeance with you. Some days I want to eat/graze all day. Little amounts. Mostly I am craving salts. But then other days i feel as though i can only drink the protein drinks. No soilds at all. I have not even thought of eating a lean Cuisine....no way I am too afraid. I do not want to stretchout my pouch, I have never vomited and am quite afraid of it. i never heard the term "slider" either but now that i know what it means I could not agree more food coated or dressed in mayo, ketchup, gravy etc does go down easy. It makes things easier.
I am 5 months out with RNY, 100 pounds lost. I keep changing my goal weight, originally I wanted 185 well i am there now, so i think I want 150. I am happy with the results except the baggy thighs but how often am I in shorts or a bathing suit, so if that is the worst of it. I am OK with that.
I only started adding veggies and fruits and only eat a small amount of those too. This is a daily challenge what to eat when i used to eat it all without even thinking.
