Pre-Op Liquid Diet
I don't know if what I'm feeling is normal. I don't think so and need to know if anyone else experienced the same symptoms. I'm on Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement High Protein drinks and clear liquids for 2 weeks but I just started this last Wednesday, and have had diahreah ever since, well Friday we had a big snow storm and I went out and shoveled just the front walkway leading up to my steps and felt fine. When I came in I had a glass of water and all of a sudden hands started to shake, felt naucious and light headed had to sit down, started a cold sweat and felt like I was going to pass out. I finally passed but I haven't felt right since. Still feel a little light headed at times. No pain anyway at anytime and got a clean bill of health when I got the cardio clearance.
I'm thinking it's because I'm not taking in as much calories as I used to and maybe was dehydrated due to the diahreah. Wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Thanks,
Lisa

I had similar feelings this week. i started my liquids on Tuesday and had a time or two where the "flood gates opened" so to speak, but I was assured that it was normal fo rthe same explanation you had about lower calorie intake. I was told to make sure I efinitely got all my water in each day to keep dehydration away and I would be fine. The body is in "cleansing mode" this week
Come to find out it was hypoglycemia. I'm a diabetic but it's been under control for so long that I haven't tested in a while and when I called my doc, he said exactly what you're saying. Now that I know, I'll be careful of timing my shakes and being careful not to do any sudden exercise without first having a shake or juice prior.
I don't want to stop my regular exercises ( tread mill) in fear that this might happen so I'll just be careful and be prepared. Thanks for sharing, this really helped when I shared with my doc.

The reaction you described sounds exactly like how I feel when I have a drop in blood sugar, aka hypoglycemia. To combat this and prevent passing out I have to eat protein. You can eat a hard candy or drink fruit juice too but that will only hold you temporarily (about 30 min.) and you will have a drop again and experience the same symptoms. With your pre-op liquid diet, the best thing to do is to call your doctor's office & ask them what you should do. Maybe half of one of the shakes would set things right if it is a dip in blood glucose levels.
