feeling nauseous everytime I eat anything ... even just a couple bites
I am almost 4 weeks post-op and I didn't have a problem with eating or drinking in the first 2 weeks, it's just been in the last week and a half that I've been experiencing nausea whenever I eat or drink anything. It's not quite as bad with just drinking water, but eating anything (or even just the thought of it now) makes me sick to my stomach for about 30 minutes or so. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and if so, what did you have to do to correct it? I know I'm not getting the nutrition I need ... definitely not enough protein. I think I had a couple bites of cottage cheese and a couple bites of applesauce and a cup of hot tea all day yesterday. And of course my pills and vitamins. I just can't stand the thought of eating. (Wish I'd had this feeling BEFORE surgery!
I am about 8 or 9 weeks out and I have really bad problems with feeling nauseated after I eat. My theory is maybe I am eating too fast or not cutting the meat small enough (or chewing it enough). Sometimes I am just baffled when I get nauseated because I knew I did it all correctly and still feel bad. My sister who is 9 months out said that the 2nd and 3rd months were the hardest for her because that was when she was introducing so many new foods back into her diet. Take it slow though. I have gotten to where I barely eat (really small portions) and then drink a protein drink an hour or so later. Have you considered adding protein drinks to help you get the protein you need?

Sounds as if you may possibly have a stricture - I suggest you call your surgeon and let him know of your symptoms. Simple procedure to help open stricture back up - EGD - out patient. They put you in twilight state and put an endoscope dowon your esophogas and stretch that little bugger open - sometimes takes more than once - mine took 6 times before it stayed open - doing great now!!! Hope this helps.

Janet, I am 9 mos out, and for the past 2 weeks, I havent been able to eat hardly at all. Cottage Cheese, Pudding, V-8 juice, Gatorade, Soft boiled eggs. All soft foods, and then sometimes is hard to swallow it. Seems in my 3-5 months is was much better. Now its like blah.. wonder if you can get a stricture, so late after surgery?
I had this problem about three months out. I personally wouldn't say it's a stricture, because of the key words: "Even thinking about eating makes me sick." Honestly it's a mental issue at the moment. I would feel nauseous after eating too fast, and so eventually I didn't like eating. Every time a meal came around, I was feeling sick just looking for something to eat. All you can do is push through it. Eventually, if you try to think positively about food and eating, it will go away. Not completely though. I'm 6 months out now and I still feel sick thinking about eating every once in a while, but if you can push through this tough part, you'll be ok.
Good luck!
I also feel the same way. I am 3 months out and for the most part I can eat without getting sick but I cannot drink anymore. I was doing really well around 6 weeks and was drinking 64 ounces and now I hardly get in 20 ounces. I just feel I am not getting enough liquids and maybe that is why I am I nausous. Has anyone had this problem before? Any suggestions as to how to get more fluid in?
