Help? EVERYTHING makes me sick!
Hi. I am Crystal, and I'm three months out of the Roux-n-y surgery. I've been fine, until about a month ago when I started feeling and getting sick every time that I've eaten. At first I thought that I was eating too fast, but I noticed that I would feel sick after the first bite, or even if I wait ten minutes between bites. I also it is not a problem with chewing. It has gotten so bad now, that the past week or so I've feelt sick just when I knew that I was going to eat soon!
My surgeon said that this is a mental problem; that I'm making myself feel sick. If so, how do I fix it?
Can anyone help me? I want to be able to eat comfortably again. I don't need to feel euphoria, but I don't want to feel sick anymore, and I don't want to throw-up every meal!
Hi Crystal,
Call your DR right away. You may have developed a stricture; you can get into serious trouble fast with this! Have you been throwing up at all? Also have them do an EDG and check you. They can look for strictures, ulcer; and see how your pouch is doing! I had a few of these issues early on. Whatever you do make sure you are holding down and getting in all your liquids; you can dehydrate quickly and this can be life threatening! It make your pottasium drop like a stone; can cause irregular heartbeast and so. If you can't get answer from your own Dr go to another! Best wishes and let us know. Take care, Judy R
Hi Crystal have you had any luck at keeping your food down yet? I am not throwing up when I eat or drink but do feel like I could. I have been doing what the doctors told me and it is really bad when drinking anything. Everything taste so sweet. After awhile I just have to quit and go lay down for a nap. I am worried that there is something wrong so you need to call your doc or dietician. I called the dietician and she said to quit the protein drinks and to go with fruit juice. I don't know if that will hel*****t because I am just now 2 weeks out. Good Luck! Michelle
Yeah, I'm really able to keep everything down now. If I can tell you anything, it's that it will get so much easier in time. I had a problem with everything tasting too sweet as well, and I was also prone to naps after eating, although exercising right afterwards is the more healthy choice. However, I would not recommend stopping the protein drinks flat out. I'd recommend either drinking them in smaller increments, or putting less protein in each cup of milk. See, I haven't gotten my protein in in months, and my hair is falling out, and I feel a lot weaker, so before you fall out of the habit, don't stop the protein! I hope this helps...
