Hi... I have not had surgery yet. I am still contemplating it. I am not sure that surgery will do me much good. I am afraid that I will still try to binge with the surgery. Is there a place on OH for head issues? I really think bingeing is a head issue. I'm diabetic and know that I am doing some serious damage to myself.

Hi Michelle, Any type of an eating issue is what you are calling a head issue. This is just as much a struggle mentally as it is physically. Before you even consider this surgery please seek assistance and get the binging under control. If you don't you are going to regret the surgery because you will not be able to even try to eat like that for a long time and it will become quite emotionally draining. Then after some time you will start binging again and then the surgery will have done you no good. It is only a tool and losing the weight and keeping it off is up to you. You will still have to work hard. If you are binging are you purging as welll? I ask this because if you do this after surgery you can do some serious damage to yourself. If you are considering RNY food can get stuck, you cannot eat or drink certain things because of a higher risk of an ulcer. Imagine what purging can do. Not to mention getting really sick. Once you are able to get the binging under control and have surgery you will want to continue therapy. This is a rough road and therapy helps a lot. It is not easy to handle eating disorders. Many of us struggle with it everyday and you are not alone at all. This forum is exactly where you want to be and you are welcome. We are happy that you came here. Take care of yourself and keep us posted ok? Terisa

Love the Roses!!! I'd talk to my Dr about the binging issue; they've heard it before and can help you. I bet that one suggestion will be to toss the goodies that trigger you. I had to do this!!!! You may still be a candidate for WLS, which will include work on the ridding the binging from your life pre-op, but you seem to be ready for this process. My relationship with food changed after WLS. I hope that this is your experience too. My co-morbidities are no longer a problem. I'd ask the Doc how WLS might change in your diabetic status. I'm pretty sure that it will improve greatly. Ro
