Food Questions, HELP

I am new to this board and I hope someone has some info to help me. I am 12 days out and have actually felt wonderful. I was advanced to soft diet 2 days ago and I have been eating things like cottage chees, canned fruit (in no sugar added juice of course) and even tuna. I would not say I have much of an appetite but I do sit down for breakfast, lunch and dinner and eat about 4 oz of food...I have acually found that if I skip, I lose any appetite, so I am pretty diligent with this. I have lost 17 pounds since surgery and have not any problems...until last night. I had some chicken salad (that only had things I could have) with a plain LF yogurt and LF mayo and I am sure that I had some sort of blockage. I had a terrible stomach ache for hours and I finally got up at 3 am and walked...which helped some as I kept burping. This morning, I am OK but not 100%, now eating some cottage cheese which seems to be OK. SO, here are my questions: Do you think this blockage was caused by the fact it was chicken breast in the salad? (some have said chicken breast is too dry to eat), Also, are there foods that I will not be able to eat now...that just wont agree with me, that I will be able to eat later? Or if I can not stomach it now does that mean I will never be able to? There seem to be a couple of soft things on my list (some mashed vegies and beans) that dont actually cause a blockage, but upset my stomach, so I am just wondering if just trying to add them in a month or so will be easier on me..?? So many people I know have all said how nothing bothers them and nothing ever has so I am alittle concerned...I would like to advance at some point off of cottage cheese and fruit Any advice would be wonderful! Your experience is totally normal. For some reason it sounds like your food got "stuck". You will be able to eat chicken again, I'm sure. Just be careful and make sure to chew, chew, chew. There are foods that will bother you now that you will be able to eat later. I'm not quite 6 months out and I can eat just about everything I want to. I hardly ever get sick now, but in the early months it happened more often. Take things slowly, and add foods into your diet slowly, and things should go fine.

Thank you so much Renee! I can not tell you how much I needed a response here. I have been checking back since I wrote it hoping for someone to tell me something like this. Congratulations on 6months out! How have you been with your new life/body? Have you lost much weight? Do you try new foods at home only? I am scared to try anything out of my house for fear of getting sick or dumping Anyway, I hope to hear from you again. Mariam

Glad I could help. This journey has been absolutely fantastic for me. I have lost 81 lbs so far - I'd like to lose another 10 or 20 lbs. I love my new body - I have so much more energy and it is really exciting to buy clothes, etc. It has been really fantastic, and I'm so happy I did this. It seems like it hasn't been that long, but when I look at my "before" pictures, I hardly recognize myself. I thank God for this surgery every single day! I try new foods pretty much anywhere, but I just take it easy. I travel a lot for my job, and have to eat in restaurants quite a bit. I just eat very little of new things and try to make good choices. It's pretty easy to get broiled fish or lean meat just about anywhere. Seafood works really well for me, and always has, but some people don't tolerate it for several months after surgery. Just go very slowly and you'll do fine. When I "dump", it goes away within 20-30 minutes, so I don't worry too much about it. I've only gotten really sick a couple of times, but it passes quickly. If you follow the rules, it seems to work really well. Good luck to you!
