Hi Marsha. Going "back to basics" means going back to the types of food rules you followed once you were on full solids and recovered from your surgery, both in types of food and in behaviors toward food. For instance, protein first, low fat, keep the carbs complex/low glycemic index. In particular, it means upping the protein, upping your water intake, upping your activity levels. It is possible that you could have some actual physical things going on, such as a stretched pouch or stoma, or any of several other things, that you might do well to have evaluated by your surgeon if you can return to him/her, or by another surgeon if that is not an option. It is not "all your fault." There are changes that happen to one's anatomy over time, and some of these things are potentially fixable through relatively simple changes in your current anatomy, or, if nothing else works, through a full fledged revision. Don't give up hope. You are far from out of options!
