I had RNY Gastric Bypass on August 28th and this past Thursday progressed to "soft" foods...yay, I get to chew. However, since the switch from blended foods, I have thrown up moist and tender pork, tuna and chicken. The only things I'm able to hold down is potatoes and cream of wheat, so I know things are moving. Should I just spend an extra week on blended foods? Do you have any suggestions for other soft proteins? HELP!!!!!!

Hey Shannon!! Welcome to the losers club and congratulations on graduating to soft foods!! Who'd have ever thought we would be so excited about such milestones!!! Chicken and pork were the LAST meats that I was able to tolerate following my surgery. It took about 4 months to get the pork down and another couple for the chicken, so give yourself some time. Some folks are able to adjust to meats (all kinds) right away, but most find that chicken is the last one tolerable. Who knows???? I ate a lot of scrambled eggs and egg salad with very little lite mayo. I also ate a lot of roast beef (cooked until nearly dessecrated!) and just chewed and chewed and chewed. I could tolerate tuna (plain) and ate a lot of fish and cottage cheese. Watch your starchy foods - while they do tend to go down (and stay down) easily, they are full of empty calories and lost of sodium, so be mindful of what you are consuming. Probably the amounts you are eating right now aren't much to be worried about, but eventually you will be eating more and those kinds of foods are easy to incorpoate into bad eating habits later. If you feel like you aren't quite ready for some of the semi-solid (softees) yet, then go back to pureed until you feel more up for new stuff. Good luck!!! Hugs!! Kristi
