Has anyone else developed a milk intolerance?
I get extremely nauseated when I drink milk, so I have tried some of the soy products. 5th continent light soymilk (original flavor) is sold at Wal-Mart, and I can tolerate that a lot easier than milk, but still have to limit myself to about a cup. I am nearly 2 years out from RNY, and never had problems with milk before the RNY. I also can not tolerate over 10g of sugar/serving, but I know that is common. Anyone else have similar problems?
Carol,
LOVE MILK!!! But, now that I'm two years out, I'm developig new sensitivities to things my body usually tolerated. Straight milk just seems to curdle in my tummy; however, yogart does fine.
I'm also starting to dump more that I ever had before. Very little sugar sets me off where I was able to tolerate larger amounts. I guess better late is never?? Maybe, these changes will help our bodies keep from gaining that 2-3 post-year weight gain too much.
Good luck
Cindy

Hi Carol,
Prior to WLS, I LOVED milk...with pizza, hamburgers, anything really...my favorite beverage...after WLS I can barely stand to drink it at all...hurts my tummy...then the gas, bloating and upset stomach starts....
Anyway, I can drink the lactate free milk...it tastes the same to me. I can not drink much...but it works enough for protein drinks, cooking and the occasional mouthful....
I can no longer tolerate most milk products, like yogurt, which I do miss. But I can eat cottage cheese, which before WLS I wouldn't have put anywhere near my mouth. Now, I eat it with fresh pineapple and actually enjoy it.
I am no magic solution....but try the lactate free milk if you haven't already.

PS I am 2.5 years out...so I don't think my body will change back....
PSS My nutrtionist told me that this is a common problem.
