Can anyone recommend weightloss meds . . . I'm 2 years post op and am starting to get the hunger pains and can tell my pouch is getting bigger. I'd like to take something to stop the appetite. Thanks for your help! Nancy Jo

More water and protein. Water fills you up. It's a known fact that people think they are hungry and all they need is more water. I was told that our pouches don't stretch out like stomachs. I know if I over eat I get sick to my stomach. Donna

Hi Nancy! I agree with the previous poster. What tends to happen over time to a number of us (NOT all, but some, me included), is that our Stoma "relaxes" or enlarges, allowing food to pass through the pouch and into the small intestine quickly. This basically has the intestine "act" like a stomach. There are key things you can do to help these hunger feelings. I know, I have them constantly, but it is NOT a "death sentence" or a "failure"... They are: ALWAYS stop ALL fluid consumption at least 1/2 hour before eating, and DO NOT DRINK anything 45 minutes - 1 hour after eating. Also, when eating, PLAN ACCORDINGLY - know that anything with sauces, gravies, soupy texture, or lots of liquid (including salads) will pass through very fast, and you will get hungry sooner. This is especially pronounced in mature pouches with relaxed stomas. Eat LEAN ANIMAL PROTEIN FIRST, and then some veggies. This will "hang around" better in a mature pouch with a larger stoma. I deal with this constantly, and if you like, just call me at the number below at any time and we can discuss all kinds of ideas around this. But just know - you CAN deal with this, and I definitely do not recommend any kind of pill. They don't really work - if they did, I never would have had surgery Talk to you soon, Mike Michael A. OK Guys - several folks have asked us to get together for a "Virtual Support Group", so we are going to start tonight and give it a try! Just come TO THIS SPECIFIC MESSAGE BOARD tonight, we will start at 8PM Central (6PM Pacific, and 9PM Eastern). All you do is select CHAT ROOM from the upper left of the screen here on this board. It is the first selection listed under "Hunger And Food Troubles Forum" in the left blue column. I am really looking forward to some really great discussions and ideas being exchanged, so let's do it! I will see you then! Michael
