When you think of having weight loss surgery, you think, WOW, I'll feel a hell of a lot better once I get this weight off WRONG. I found out last Friday (June 30th) that I now have reflux, which has been causing my nausea for almost 7 months, and now I DO NOT know what the hell to eat, even yogurt makes me sick. Dr. Gryboski upped my protonix to 2x a day for 2 weeks because he said my stomach was inflamed from the acid, but NO MATTER WHAT I EAT, I still get sick. David says to give it a few more days to see if it helps before I give up. I have my RX of phenagrin (sp) that I am taking as well, because I get so sick. I'm at a loss on what to eat, because they said NO spicy, acidic foods. Well that pretty much leave mexican out and chrystal light because it has citric acid in it.............HELLLLLLLLLLLLLP, What am I to do? Any of you that has reflux PLEASE tell me kinda what you eat. Melissa 241.5/153/150

I would suggest going back to soft mild foods to allow your stomach and esophagus time to heal. SF puddings, mashed potatoes, cream soups, vanilla protein shakes, cream of wheat, cottage cheese or ricotta cheese, light laughing cow cheese, etc. I think that once everything is healed and calmed down for a while then you can see what anti-reflux meds actually work for you and gradually add in solid foods again. Melissa, I'm sorry to hear about your reflux. I have it too, but Nexium and an occassional pepcid complete takes care of mine. I am 3 weeks post op and have some mind heartburn which the doctor says is normal. I would suggest talking to the nutritionist/dietician that is associated with your hospital program. If there is none, contact your insurance company and explain the situation. You may be entitled to some sessions with a dietician who can help you make some painless choices. Good luck.

I too have acid reflux, serious enough that I now have Barretts esophogus which is the stomach's extending into my throat to protect from the acid. This can turn cancerous and I never knew about that until my surgery. I am almost 3 months postop and I take a nexium everyday. Sometimes if I eat something spicy, I take an antacid along with it, but it does the trick. I do, however, try to avoid a lot of spicy food and save it for special occasions.
