I am 3 1/2 years post-op and I STILL DO NOT drink ANY carbonated beverages. To me, the risk is greater then the reward, and I much prefer water anyways, plus it's better for me. Carbonation has been said that it could cause your pouch to swell... permanently. Heidi

About three months out I started again. My doc says they are o.k. Just have to be diet no calorie pop.I dont see how they could "swell" the pouch as there is no"seal" on the other end to make it a sealed pouch. But listen to what youre surgeon says as they all have different ideas what is good and bad.

My surgeon also says no carbonated drinks of any type because they can cause the pouch to enlarge due to the carbonation. Donna

I'm 15 months out and I hardly ever drink carbonated anything! Hurts my pouch like heck! Even though I can burp if I drink carbonated drinks, it still hurts my pouch to have the carbonation bubblin' around in there. I know there are quite a few people that can drink carbonated drinks with no problems but I guess really it's up to you and your surgeon. Congrats on the baby! Missy

I have been drinking diet pop for the last 9mths and now have alot of problems with grazing and hunger. My surgeon said that is what is causing my hunger and I need to stop drinking pop. If you haven't started I would continue to stay away from all carbonation drinks
