Topic: RE: Just found this forum!~ We raise Paint Horses in Texas.
Hi. Cheryl, My name is Barbara Tabor and I live in Enid, Oklahoma and my daughter lives in Frisco, Texas and I too love horses. I have a paint mare which is bred and due in September and a yearling filly produced last April and also a Palmino mare due in September and a gray mare also due in Sept. I have a bay mare being bred now, love horses and want to ride. I have come down from 355 last year and lost to 282 when I had gastric bypass 2 weeks ago and want so much to ride and be active again. I have had so many reasons not to be active. I need knee surgery and back surgery and also now found out that I may need another open heart in June, but one that at a time first gettting the weight lost. Wish me luck. Barbara

Topic: RE: Why is this board so dead any more?
Hey Cheryl, It just dawned on my you sent a PM to me some time ago. Ive just been so caught up and busy I never got to write back. Cause we all know us horse people can go on and on and on about horses especially our own. the Hackneys I talk about are ones my sister rides but we do not own. And quite honestly are not child friendly. Not because of bad attitude, but because of movement. They Trot out like good saddle seat horses do. Big, BOLD movement! Also if thats your boy you talk about in your avatar. He is stunning. And I am very particular when it comes to paints, I love a good color and pattern. Not something that everyone else has. one reason why I love my girl so much. If I remember you had asked me if mine is Arab. Actually she is a 16.1 HH 1200lb Thoroughbred Mare, yes she's a big girl. But pretty as can be. She has a stunning head for a Thoroughbred and big cheeks like a Morgan. I just love her to pieces, shes one of my main reasons I had surgery. Classic in some ways, but is a very stunning Bright red bay with gold tone, till she bleaches in late summer by then she is a gold toned bay, but never looks bleached. I just love it. But has 2 irregularly shaped white stockings on her left legs only...not very common to see. And racing blood lines to die for. Born and Bred in Ocala, granddaughter of Northern Dancer and raced for 5 years. But is a rescue through C.A.N.T.E.R., her legs were pretty messed up. For the first year I had her farrier bills I was paying about $200 every 4-6 weeks, to correct her as much as possible. Most of that was for the corrective shoes, pads and trimming techniques needed. I did use one of the best farriers in the state but his prices were actually equal or a little lower than most (had a HUGE clientel). Now is much better and my bills are about $60, for reset and trim. And $75 when I need new shoes and a new pad. She has permenant heel damage in the one foot so it really doesnt grow, so she requires a wedge to not get a run down heel. But I will check out your website in the next couple of days. Nicole

Hi, Just found this forum! I posted some info about us on the board! Glad to have found it. I read where you have a couple of hackneys? That is neat. I always wanted to raise Ponies........I love good ponies that are kid friendly. There is a good market for them, too! We have a stud that is actually "pony sized" but bred to regular mare's we have gotten some nice sized babies. Just wonder what he'd produce bred to a pony mare? I don't know why he came out so short, because his dad was 15 hands and 1,280 pds, and mom was 15.2 hands and about a 1000 pds. He's barely 14 hands..... He has a really good disposition, tho. His babies are always so sweet and in your face friendly. If you want to go read the post, I'd be honored, or you can just go check out our website I made........ http://ourpaints.gq.nu There are lots of pics on it. Anyway, I'll be checking this board more often now that I've found it! Have a good one! Cheryl

Topic: Just found this forum!~ We raise Paint Horses in Texas.
Hi, Just to say hello to the new forum! Cool.......a horses forum! My hubby and I raise, on a small scale, Paint Horses. We only have 4 Paint mares now........used to have 22, but got too expensive! So, we cut back to our favorites and kept them. We did keep 2 fillies from this year to replace their mommas and one colt as a stallion prospect. should have 4 babies coming this spring. Gonna have to SELL this next batch! Can't keep them all! We have a cremello Tobiano stud that will always be with us, Lord willing. He's special. Plus, from him we get the neat dilute coloring like palomino, buckskins and smokey blacks (rarely). He's been good on his color production, having given us only about 3 solid foals out of about 16. He is the son of an old stud we had years ago that was a one in a million horse........if you want to see our horses, take a look at our website. http://ourpaints.gq.nu . Lots of pics to see on there. We live in NE Tx, about 90 miles south of Dallas. I had Lap RNY on 7-16-07. Have lost 62 pds since surgery and am getting excited about the idea of riding this next spring! Might even leave the 3 mares open next year to ride them!! I used to live on the back of a horse, then, picked up weight over the years. At my heaviest I was 272#. I weighed 196# yesterday!! Getting there, slowly! My goal is 140#. Anyway, hope all of you fellow horse lovers' all get your wishes and goals to come true! I'm gonna start looking for another saddle around Christmas!! Don't have one now and figure better start looking! Take care and all have a good Holiday season! Best of luck to everyone on their weight loss journey! Sincerely, Cheryl http://ourpaints.gq.nu [email protected]

Topic: Does anyone have any breeches boots or 1/2 chaps they want to sell?
I need some used field boots (or show boots... that maybe have seen better days) or half chaps that are a wide calf. I'm just now at a weight that I can start riding again soon, but i don't yet fit into my boots. I'm hoping someone out there will have something I can buy that is relatively inexpensive until I can get into my boots and buy some dreamy new expensive show boots. I will need breeches in sizes from 18 to 22 too! Thanks!

Topic: RE: Looking to get my horse fix
I know this thread is old, but I couldn't help suggesting the Budweiser Clydesdale farm. If you're willing to relocate, that would be awesome. I have heard their barn is about as good as it gets, and from the photos I've seen it does look amazing. I imagine, since it's a corporation, you'd be paid reasonably well compared to a lot of barns out there. I've heard the race tracks don't pay well, and it's pretty seasonal. A bigger TB breeding barn could be okay, but again, I've heard they don't pay well. I'd have a hard time working for that industry anyway. I love racing because it has to do with horses, but anything much higher than a pleasure horse barn will usually dip into borderline (if not blatent) abuse. I think that's another reason why the Budweiser barn would be good, those horses have a lot of money around them, and not to do anything much more than be horses. You posted that you worked for an andalusian trainer; I would love an andalusian or an andalusian X!

Topic: Does anyone know of where I can get a ...
Pony sized saddleseat bridle. Specifically for a Hackney pony. My little sis will be showing this pony and I have been looking up and down for the darn thing on as many sites as possible. im thinking I might contact a Hakney breeder and find out where they get theirs. I need to know soon as we plan to be in the ring with this pony by the end of May. Thanks for any suggestions that may show up.

Topic: RE: Anyone with a saddle too big for sale?
I know ALL about saddle fitting, trust me...I had an Arab with high withers and Arabs normally have very low withers. I must have went through 40 different saddles before i found one that fit him. I have a Foxtrotter now that is HUGE and the saddle Im borrowing from a friend until I buy one is a 17in. A little too small for me but just fits my FT...He is getting fatter by the day! LOL. Anyway, I dont do english very much...I used to do dressage, but found it more comfortale in a Western for pleasure riding (trails). Thanks anyway! By the way...I dont much care for QHs either. Ive had a few. All deadheadded if you ask me...but maybe a Arab Qh cross..that may be just fine. A little fire and a little deadheadedness might make a handsome couple! LOL.

I was almost gonna put that I do and then I read the part for a western saddle. But I would advise If you have a Petsmart with a Stateline tack in it to go there as they are all closing and right now everything is 30% off and probably will be dropping more. My concern though with looking for a saddle that big make sure the gullet and bars are correct for your horse. I am a stickler about proper fitting saddles for horses. I know far to many with problems because of ill fitting saddles. Especially western saddles are harder to properly fit. My best friend found that one out, she asked me to help her find the right saddle for her foundation bred QH gelding. Yup ended up with a 27YO saddle that cost $500. In great shape and out of a fantastic saddle maker. The saddles for QH's these days are being built for thoes blasted Appendix bred ones, nothing against appendix as I am thinking of breeding my mare to a QH stallion, but they are not taking time to look and breed right. But ok ive rambled now...lol. Happy Trails Ya'll
