Nearly Bombproof Horse Question
Hi Guys,
I have a question for you knowledgable people. My wonderful appendix QH is nearly bombproof on the trails. Usually the most he will do is shy away from something and give it a good stare as he goes by. With one exception: People on Foot. When we come across a person on foot while trailriding, that almost always causes a full out spook. Deer, Ok; Birds flying out of the cornfield in front of him, ok; lawn mowers, bicycles, motorcycles, schoolbuses, chainsaws - ok.
Is this unusual? From some of his previous behavior (and the scars) we suspect that this horse have had some rough treatment, but he has a very calm and loving temperment. He has gone from head and foot shy to "Love me, pet me, play with me..." I'm just curious if other people have this same issue.
Happy Trails,
Deb
Thanks for the advice. Either T. is a quick learner, or he's messing with my mind. I had a friend doing everything she could on Friday, including popping out of the cornfield in front of us, and he only spooked once. Then yesterday we were out and came across children hootin' and hollerin' and jumping out of a tree, and he barely flicked an ear their direction.
I'm sure we aren't done with this issue for good, and will continue to have someone come out and "surprise" us a few times, but Mr. Do-Right seems to be catching on quickly. I adore this horse!
