My name is Lori and I live in Central Missouri. (Hi Lori! says the peanut gallery) I had Lap RNY on 11/22/04 and have lost 82 pounds since surgery and 92 pounds since my all time high. I have a 14 year old Polish Arab mare, Dominga, a 24 year old Grulla QH gelding, Bucky Badger and a gorgeous 2 month old orphan Missouri Foxtrotter filly named Skye. So tell me about you and your horses. Lori 241/231/149/131

WOW 15 horses!!! That is so cool. Are you excited about your surgery??? I couldn't hardly wait for mine. My horses are grateful I had it, lol. They were probably tired of hauling me around. The Badger probably didn't mind as much because he is a BIG boy but Dominga is a small Arab mare. Keep us posted about your surgery. Lori 241/231/149/131

Hi Lori, My name is Lisa Jensen. I had Lap RNY on July 19th, 2005 and I've lost 40lbs so far! I had a QH mare (Dax, my pride and joy!) in 1995 and when I had my son a year later (I had horrendous complications) I couldn't manage to do the horse and kid thing, so I sold my mare (a few years after that) to someone I knew and respected. She's been a mamma, and a good one! But I broke her myself, and it was the most wonderful summer of my life. I *miss* horses so very much. The main reason I had the surgery is for my health, of course, but being around horses again is my motivator. I *need* to be around them, it's good for my soul. So the plan is once I get under 200 (eek, that will take awhile!) I will start lessons, and we will get a horse a few years after that (once we can afford it again. DH is in college, so I have a wait in front of me). I have a few friends who have horses, so I get to see and smell them once in awhile, but I can't wait til I'm up to volunteering at a barn, and then starting lessons (once the weight is off enough). I'm glad you starting something. I check in on this board once in awhile, but it's pretty quiet. Everyone out playing with their horses I guess! Take care, Lisa 360/345/313/175

Welcome Lisa....wow you are doing awesome since your surgery aren't you?? I know what you mean about needing to be around the horses...I can't imagine not having them. Of course last night I would have been willing to ship Skye to you, lol. She was being a tad bit naughty but we are working thru all of that. Lori

Hi Lori, Sorry it took so long to reply. Thank you so much for the welcome. I have been quite shocked & pleased with how well the surgery has gone so far. I have a lot to lose, but I'm certainly headed in the right direction! Thanks for noticing. I'd have taken Skye in a heartbeat! Even if just to babysit for awhile! I miss being around them so much. One day soon.... Take care! Lisa

Jack if you have the chance to do the Parelli school DO IT!!! Due to my work schedule and our cattle I am still just a Level 1 but it has totally changed my relationship with my horses. I am excited for you just thinking about it!!! Lori

Thanks for the welcome, Jack! I, too want to train. I broke my mare myself, and it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. John Lyons has a training program I would *love* to attend. That's a dream, though. It's possible, but not likely! However, I can certainly train my own and be a happy girl! Good luck to you. I think that is just fabulous! Go for the dream if you can! OHH, I just saw that your surgery was 2 days ago! How did it go? How are you feeling? I hope it all went well and smoothly!! Take care of yourself, and sip, sip, sip! Regards, Lisa (5'9") Lap RNY 7/19/05 360/345/305/160

I've noticed that too, about the top clinicians all use similar techniques. We have a Greater Northwest Equine Expo here in Oregon, and I remember when Clinton Anderson was one of the side trainers, and now he is a headliner. Too cool. I've been every year they have it, and it does seem like they all train about the same way. Like you said, better than the old ways! I learn valuable stuff from all of them. Take care! Lisa

Hola - I'm Angie in SoCal. I had my RNY on 12/9/03 and have lost 163 lbs so far (got about another 20 or 30 to go!). I had hosses when I was a kid and in my high school days but don't have any now. I've had arabs, quarters, morgans, a mustang and crosses. Now, I'm waiting until I retire, move to AZ and have my own land. It's tough having horses here in socal and rather than board, would rather have them on my own property. My first love is Friesians! That WILL be my next horse. I also love other light drafts, but would also love to have another adopted mustang or prem horse/foal. Angie 351/188/150'ish
