Hi Jeannie I've actually been thinking about this lately, as I am in the process of finding my next horse. And, as I've been considering, I've realized that I don't really care what breed I end up with, as long as it's a safe, sound and sane horse. Attractive would be nice, but definately not a necessary feature. (The warmblood mare I'm parting with is drop-dead gorgeous, but too much horse for me now. She needs a much more confident rider that I am these days.) I tried out a thoroughbred mare a couple of weeks ago who had all of my wanted qualities. Unfortunately, her trot, while beautiful to watch, was going to shake my teeth out. Fine for shorter rides in the show ring, but I also love trail riding and want to hunt. So on to my next test drive, last night, on an enormous appendix quarterhorse. Comfortable gaits, and quiet enough to be a school horse. Not what you'd call a looker, but I felt safe on him. And once I feel safe, riding becomes fun again. So, the short answer, my favorite kind of horse is the kind that let's me feel safe and have fun. Hopefully, I've found my guy. A few weeks will tell. Have a great weekend, Deb

By a longshot, and after a lifetime (gulp almost 38 yrs) of dealing with horses, I would have to say quarter horses are my favorite, and not the 440's either the foundations. That being said I used to train and show Arabians in Scottsdale in the 1980's when they were at their zenith as far as prices went anyhow. Although at the time I was eager to get on any out of control mount there was, and into riding the "unrideable", the arabs of today are much different than they were breeding in those days, and I hit the ground a little harder, and don't bounce back up like a ball. So I am glad I had all the experiences that I had, but give me my quarters, or even grade horses. Never was into certain colors, and mine generally tend to be chesnuts, sorrels and the like with VERY minimal white or "chrome" as it is called in the industry.

Your place sounds like mine, with two horses, two boar goats, two dogs, two cats, two fish and a Rooster named KFC, sounds like Noahs ark, all I need is a chick for my Rooster....LOL I love all of my animals too, they dress better than me...LOL, I was telling my friend the other day that the accessories I buy for my animals are somewhat accessive, that if they made an outfit for my Rooster I would get him one too... I've always had Paints, Foundation QH's, and a couple of Arabs. No more. I'm totally sold on Morgans. Versatility, trainability, great minds. I'm continually amazed at what these horses are willing to do for us. Giving is another good word for them. Deb in ND

We have two Quarter Horses, one paint with a foal and 1 Appaloosa/QH blend. I love them all. The most affectionate is our App/QH gelding. As for a favorite, I would have to say I love the look and flo of the Percheron. I love the Texas team, Texas Thunder that is owned by the Preifert Ranch Equipment. http://www.preifert.com/dynamic/home.php Look for the link to "Texas Thunder" and that will lead you to the info about thier Percheron Team. I can not ride because of my weight and spine damage, but I sure do love to watch the kids and the grooming time with the horses. Have a great Spring!!
