Topic: Hiking anyone?
Anyone in Sacramento area that is sharing the journey of WLS that knows any hiking groups for us?
Topic: RE: ObesityHelp Magazine is waiting for you!
Eric I am making a hike to Half Dome on July 9th. This might be a great story for the magazine.
I've been getting the magazine and I think it is great! Very informative for both pre-ops, early post ops and longterm post ops.

Topic: Half Dome hike is coming up
Me and some of my WLS friends are hiking Half Dome on July 9th. We are meeting at the foot of the Mist Trail at 4:30 or 5:00 AM. Anyone that would like to join us...you are welcome to.
This is a big deal for me. I jumped from a plane in April of this year and though I'm not a veteran hiker, I'm going to attempt this mother of hikes.

Topic: Colorado Hiking
I am having my surgery in Shawnee Mission, KS December 2004. My favorite activity in the whole world is backpacking in Colorado. This past summer I could not get up the mountains. This was the straw that broke the camel's back to have the surgery! I cannot wait to get back into the mountains.
Topic: Fellow Hikers...
Hello,
My name is Sherrie Duncan
I live in Springfield, MO. I have been part of local women's hiking group. We are made up of a small number of ladies who enjoy the great outdoors. I have out with them on 1 over night trip/hike. I loved it!!
But being over weight I figured out really quick that its not real easy to make it in and... OUT when you are 100+ lbs over your goal weight.
I'm having my WLS on 10/12/04 in St. Louis and I know that one of my 1st things to do is get back out there and do it again. I made it in and I made it out with the help of a horse person that we where sharing the trail with... he put my 30lbs pack on his horse and took it back to the trail head and I finished walking out on my own, looking back I was lucky to make it out on my own two feet! So you know when I get some of this weight off I'm going back to the same place and I'm packing in and out all the way!! With no
's
We have a great group that goes out and packs together and we even share the equipment when we get new ladies who want to try it out but don't want to put a lot of money into it before they make a couple of runs.
I hope to see some more folks on this board soon so I can share my success and trip talk!!

Thank you very much. It was a definite challenge and I hurt every step. My step Mom says I'm the most butt headed woman in the world - I very well may be - I was determined that I was not going to lose my ability to challenge myself - I wanted to walk that walk like all the "skinnies". I would not advise it to anyone else MO - I worked with my doctor and chiropractor and a physical trainer the entire 8 mos it took to train for the event. Best wishes in everything you attempt - Ro

I too want to go hiking!! I live in the desert in CA (the ugly one, not the pretty one, LOL!) I've been poring over this Trek America brochure (see their website at www.trekamerica.com) They do all these great camping/hiking trips hroughout the US and Canada plus Mexico and Australia. I spent a day in Yellowstone last summer (passed through on a road trip) and I loved it. I can't wait to visit more of our national parks and do some serious hiking. And yes, the Appalachian Trail is a dream of mine. Maybe next summer...
Topic: Great Day for a hike
Hi I'm Sharon (1/13/04). I went to Fort Harrison State Park today in Indpls In. I went on a 2 1/2 mile hike. This was my longest one since my surgery. I felt great afterwards. Now I am really pumped for a 5k walk next weekend. My 1st ever.
Topic: RE: Hiking Anyone?!
Didn't even know there was a hiking forum here. Who'd of thunk it?
I was strugling to find a way to get more exercise post-op. Have taken up GeoCaching, a hiking/scavenger hunt with GPS. It has been great! Feel stronger each time out. Have not herd of Suprise or White Tanks so am guessing they are far from Portland.
May the road rise up to meet you and may the wind always be at your back,
Scott
