What is something that you expected to improve after surgery, that did?  And what is something that you never expected to improve, that did?

I expected my diabetes to get better, and it went away completely!  I never knew how much my self esteem would improve, how much happier and content I would be.

Hi Debi!

My blood glucose is 83.  no more diabetes issues.
My CPAP is 3 notches lower.  (Still hoping for it to be gone altogether)
I fit into a kayak!  That's a huge improvement.
My legs don't swell like they used to, only minorly and occasionally.

Good topic!

YAY for you Jan!

Isn't it a great feeling to be getting healthy.  And it's just the beginning for you.  Who knows if you'll have that CPAP at a year out?!  I'm 11 months out tomorrow and my CPAP and I parted ways almost 9 months ago.  Keep up the great work!

My appearance obviously is the main thing I expected to improve... But the funny thing is I wasnt expecting to look like this! So I guess my appearance is the answer for both questions!
I feel great,I look great  I cant wait to see what I look like when I reach goal weight. Thankfully I didnt have any health problems prior to surgery, I am so glad I did this before I developed them.

I really LOVE the fact that you not only feel great but that you acknowledge that you look great too!  I think it's wonderful that you are able to see the beautiful person that we see when we look at your picture.  I know everyone always says it's what's inside that counts, and that is true, but for those of us that have been MO, it's a blessing for us to feel just as beautiful on the outside as the inside!

Keep up the great work.  You're getting so close to goal.  You'll be there before you know it!

Thank you so much! It is the inside that counts, but even if I felt pretty on the inside I havent felt pretty on the outside in so long! I always joked I had a skinny girls mind in a big girls body....I never "felt" obese...certainly not morbidly obese! But the mirrors and scales said different. It just nice to have things match for once! Thanks again, I really dont think I could be doing this without everyones support on here

One thing I expected and really wanted was greater mobility - I had a 4 year old nephew and new twin nephews that I babysat for a couple of times a week, and realized that I couldn't keep up with them as a MO obese aunt...  and I wanted to be around for them for a long, long time...   Of course, I have that mobility now!  They are now seven and three, and we play on the floor and run at the park - I love sliding with them!  They think it's pretty funny when Aunt Jean chases them up the ladders!

What I really didn't expect was that with my appearance and my attitude  improving so much, I found a wonderful man that makes me very, very happy...  the one drawback is that I don't have as much time to spend with my nephews, so it was almost a double-edged sword...   I have the ability to play with them more, but not the time!

Now I'm looking forward to the day when my daughter decides it's time for grandchildren - because I know I'll be here for them, (God willing), and that I'll be able to enjoy them!

Just Jean thats wonderful. I have the same great fun with my 3 grandkids they are 6,7 both boys and a 21 month old granddaughter. I just love the time to actually play with them.  Its a proud moment when the oldest of the 2 says wow grandma can run and she said she couldn't...it shocked me too!
