How do you handle comments from people that tell you you've lost too much?  You're too skinny?  Looking anorexic?

Personally, I thank them for their concern and let them know that I'm within a healthy weight range set by my doctor.

My grandmother tells me that all the time. It drives me crazy! I was down about 30 pounds when she started this. Everytime she sees me she says your wasting away to nothing girl you better stop losing now. My grandmother bless her heart has the mental capacity of a child, so trying to explain things to her is out of the question. Normally from anyone else I would so take this as a compliment but her disapproving tone just drives me nuts!
I did have a neighbor that had been gone for two weeks and when he knocked on the door looking for my hubby (of course I have no make-up on and without makeup I look dead, factor that in with losing 25 pounds in those two weeks!) He asks me if Im ok that my face looks like Im anorexic.....THat I took as a compliment! I told him go away for another 2 weeks come back  and tell me what you think!

Secretly, I enjoy the comments because it's something I've NEVER heard before.  But I just thank them and say that I'm within the range of where the doctor suggested, that I'm happy where I am even though I'm not quite at goal weight yet.  When they find out that I'm not still killing myself to lose anymore, they usually back off.

I haven't had that yet but I had a friend tell me today not to lose too much weight or I'll look anorexic.  I said I'm on my way to being skinny so I have room to rebound, it's part of the doctor's plan.  Don't worry when I get there.   Everyone's used to seeing me fat so, of course, anything near normal will seem skinny to them.  Oh well, they'll have to deal with it.  I'm not doing this for them, I'm doing it for me. :-)

Most of the comments I've had in this vein I've assumed to be complimentary and I just respond with "Thank you" and I leave it at that.  I've had people close to me ask things such as how am I going to handle it when I get to the weight I want to be.  How will I keep from losing too much?  So, if it's someone I know is asking because they care or they have a genuine concern, then by all means I give them an answer, but otherwise a simple "I"m all set" is pretty much what most people get.  I've learned the hard way that everyone knows someone who "had the surgery" and mostly everyone has an opinion.  Doesn't mean I have to give it any attention at all.

It's been awhile since I got this - I've been pretty much at or about goal for over a year now - but like many others, secretly I took it as a compliment.  If it was someone I know truly cared, I would share my current weight (which is always higher than I look), and explain what my doctor's goals are - and that seemed to be enough.

Made it to goal, then gained again...  working back to goal of 155!!

I usually let them know I'm told that on a regular basis and am staying healthy.

I wish I had that problem..but I don't.

If I did - I would tell them to try being 365# for one day and then be "the anorexic" me for one day and ask which physically felt better...Then I would tell them I am under a doctors care and that he assurs me I better this way than the other.  Thanks for your concern but it is not warranted - have a nice day!

First, I consider the source, if it is family or friends, I take it as a compliment, if it is people I hardly ever see, I dont let it bother me, and just tell them I am fine.

I am dealing with this now with my mom. She can not stand that I am smaller then her! She is getting under my skin really!
