I haven't had any real problems since the surgery except that at about 10 months out, I started getting the foamies a lot more. I always struggled to get the water in, but it was getting harder and harder to get ANY water in at all, and although I felt fine when I ate, about 20 minutes later, I would start to get a general discomfort in my stomach. I contacted my surgeon's office thinking that I was starting with gall bladder problems. The PA suggested putting me on protonix for a potential ulcer. After taking the meds for one day, I felt 100% better. Apparently, I'm one of the few people who still produces a lot of stomach acid post-op. That's the only problem I have had since WLS - hope it stays that way.
I didn't have any major complications, just some minor issues...in the hospital I reacted to the pain meds and passed out when I stood up. A couple weeks after surgery I ended up in urgent care in pain, only to find out I was stopped up so to speak. I've had the mystery pains.
Recently my blood sugars have been running low and I've had several scary low hypoglycemic episodes. And the low blood pressure which causes the vertigo. And I have numbness in my feet and lower legs due to in part a lack of padding on my derrier.
Sounds worse than it is. I'm so much better off than I was before WLS.
Nothing major...but as I get further along I notice slight changes in my body...ie: heartburn all the time...I live on Zantac and tums....I have hypoglycemic moments that can be very uncomfortable and freak me out and I can just throw up for no apparent reason...ie..today..I got up..took my 2-Flintstones vitamins like I do every day...drank 2-sips of coffee about an hour later and threw up in my moms flower garden cause it just like "had to come out then!"...wierd..but nothing that bothers me majorily.
So far at 5 months out I am loosing my hair in clumps and its really depressing, if anyone has any advice please let me know my email is [email protected]
The only complication I had was the wild hormonal change and the constant hemorraghing for weeks on end which was fixed through endometrial ablasion. Other then that I have never dumped. Sugar and fats have never bothered me. I wish they did. Except for getting full and not being able to eat as much I wouldn't even know that I have had surgery.
