Some were a bit sceptical or scared for me when I first brought the subject up but since I had the surgery, everyone has been very supportive and great! Now I am finding more and more people having the surgery so it is becoming more common place and acceptable by others. If only society and restaurants could help us before we get to the point of needing surgery. We got so accustomed to eating large, fatty meals full of carbs that the average size of people has grown. Now we know it is unhealthy but going out to eat can be challenging. After WLS, we know we just want to eat healthier and don't worry about having to bring food home for a second or third meal. We are learning.
All of my family and close friends were very supportive. I didn't tell all my friends about it until afterwards but they have been great. I didn't find out until a long time afterwards that some of my family was worried about it, but they were more worried about me not having the surgery and dying because of my bad health.

I was shocked to find out that one of my old friends had had WLS herself! I can't think of anyone who was negative about it - and two co-workers were so impressed, they began the process for themselves. Some, who hadn't seen me since before WLS, just can't stop looking at me - like they think I'm going to morph back into the old me if they blink. It's pretty funny sometimes, but sometimes, it creeps me out!!
