Since I'm away from home most of this week this came to mind. How do you prepare for a week away from home? Do you plan food and exercise or do you wing it? What do you pack? Have fun at the fair, Lea! ---jan---

When I went to jail school, I asked if we could stay at a hotel that had a fitness center, and I packed WLS friendly snacks in case there was a lot of junk that I wasn't able to eat there.

Basically I "wung" it..I knew we would be eating out all of our meals so for breakfast I stuck with eggs and lunch was usually something quick...minus any bun or what have you..and for dinner was when I pumped up my protein with a steak or some chicken...It was surprisingly easy for me to deal with...I did bring a box of protein bars with me that I ate on the drive out to PA and then back again...but other than that..I flew by the seat of my pants and was fine!

When we went on vacation last week I packed lots of WLS foods to bring. We stayed in a condo so I knew I'd have a full kitchen -- so I brought things like Laughing Cow cheese, yogurt, chicken breast, shrimp, oatmeal packets, and some 100 cal packs for my "treats." I didn't worry too much about exercise becuse I knew we'd be doing a lot of walking. It worked out great and for the first time ever I actually lost weight on vacation!

Well, I haven't been on vacation since my surgery, but I would pack some protein shakes, healthy snacks and make healthy choices when eating out. Jules

This is something I really struggle with. Since when we go on vacation its usually to Disney World. I do take healthy snacks and protein shakes, but I do end up eating LOTS of other things. We do Character Meals so its easy to find good Protein there its just the snacks inbetween that I shouldn't have although. Last time we went I ate ALL kinds of stuff and still lost 5 pounds. Guess it was all that walking!

I don't go away much, never mind for a week at a time. But, when I do go I make sure to pack my vitamins, supplements and a variety of protein bars. I "wing it" but do always chose chicken or fish and eat only that portion, none of the sides or sauces.

I just go with the flow. I have not found anything that I can not eat, so I make sure that I push protein first, and then try to get in as much exercise as possible.

I order protein samples so I always have some available - also bring protein bars just in case nothing else agrees with me or sounds good.
