I don't have any children so I don't have to worry about that, but I do have 2 Nephews (10 & 12 years old) and a God-Daughter (11 years old) who watch what I eat and how I cook so I am an influence on them that way. My God-Daughter and I went shopping last week and she was looking at the nutritional values... lol! Hey they're getting a head start on this. My Fiance' is thin so doesn't have to watch his weight and he eats a lot. I buy what I want but usually add rice, potatoes or pasta for him. He's also a big snacker but so far that hasn't bothered me too much because I'll just have yogurt or some grapes or something while he's eating his ice cream or whatever.

I dont buy potatos or rice, and pasta has to be whole grain. I havent bought any meat for a while, I have been using Morning Star meat products. My family will be joining me this week, and I plan to continue using healthy products for them. My daughter now snacks on healthy items and has increased her water intake and sodas are a rare treat.

Sice I have the gkids M-F I still try to keep some junk foods for them...I mostly keep fresh fruits and veggies for them though. My DH will not eat at home when he comes home. Hes sen]mi driver and when I fix breakfast I use egg sub., I buy lean ham steaks thats low sodium, and I do buy frozen hashbrowns but we cook them in Pam. He says I don't want a diet meal, If you were on weight wtchers this meal would be 4 points. So when hes coming home I buy real eggs, I do keep a bottle of oil for his HB and he will eat 2 of the ham steaks cooked in butter. He is large but I can not make him change. I have even bought healthy foods for him to take out with him to snack on...In my house its only healthy foods for me and since other then the gkids being here it is only me most of the time. So its easy for me really>
I would say that 90% of our meals are "WLS Friendly." Snacks for the boys are much healthier and they drink a lot more water than they used to.
My 5 yr old "asks" when we are going for our family walk. We leave on vacation this weekend and I plan to have healthy alternatives available. Best part, I am excited that our meal options will give us the energy we need to have the most fun, rather than the unhealthy, energy zapping fried food options.
We eat far less pasta and rice than before. And bad meats like brats, sausages, etc. are few and far between. I buy so much more fresh vegetables. and our protion sizes are so small now compared to before. Any restaurant food makes at least two meals for us each. A medium pizza is too big for us now and we used to polish off a large with no problem before. We both drink a lot more water!
My husband avoids cookies and candy while I....who has had WLS still find myself cheating on some of that! I had so much less willpower than he does!
Could explain why I can't lose my last 1o-15 pounds!
Well it is just mostly my daughter and I and we have both had the surgery so we eat the same things. I do continue to buy soda for my oldest daughter when she is going to be around. If we bake something it is with splenda and usually tweaked to be lower fat and if someone else is there they can eat it or go without.

My daughter (23 yo) started eating more healthy meals after my WLS nearly two years ago, and lost 60 pounds on her own! She and I are at about the same weight now, and share clothes. I was only buying "good" foods until my boyfriend started spending so much time here, and now when I cook dinner, I include some sort of starch for him - this makes it a little harder for both my daughter and I to avoid, but we manage. He also likes a snack in the evenings, but I've got him eating PB and bananas most of the time!
