Did I mention that the theme this year at 4H camp is HEALTH?? What do you wish you'd known health-wise long before you became obese? I know that in my case, it would have to be the info on degenerative disc disease and how the weight can actually be the cause. That was a whole lot of pain to go through! If I had known, I would have had the WLS years before I actually broke down and did it due to the pain!

I was obese for as long as I can remember... right back into kindergarten... maybe before. Since I learned about the surgery and some of the benefits I just wish I had had the surgery sooner! The very tiny bit of pain I went through (surgery) was so much less than the pain and heartache I've gone through these almost 50 years. Lori

I wish I had know how hard it would be to lose weight. When our young you always think that if you gain a bit it will be easy to take off and you can not start one day and just put it off. Then when you do start that the weight would just fall off.

I wish that girls were urged to play sports and be active like the boys were. We weren't (I'm pre-title IX). I was in Weigh****chers in 7th grade, and I remember them telling us to wait to lose our weight before we started an exercise program. I was a member of Woman's World at one time too, but I was "too heavy" to be allowed to work on the nautilus weights. I wish I had known then what I know now about exercise and its importance in losing and maintaining weight loss.

Diabetes...when I got pregnant with my son I developed gestational diabetes...I am not "pre"disposed to getting it later in life...if I kept going the way I was I would have developed diabetes in no time flat - of this I am 100% sure.

I wish I'd known long before my thirties what Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome was, and that my weight was largely (PUN INTENDED) not my fault! So many years I spent blaming myself.

I knew my diabetes was caused by my weight, but I didn't believe the doc when he said if I lost weight my diabetes could go away.

I have to say that I knew a lot health wise even as a kid. I was very active, and played every sport available to me. I just don't know how I let it go as an adult...when I quit playing so many sports, is when the weight really piled on. I was always a Large person, just not obese until my adult life.

I wish I had known what I learned in Weigh****cher's prior to WLS ~ you need to eat more to lose weight. I basically starved myself into being obese.

My folks tried and tried to get me to loose weight but they weren't great role models, they'd eat whatever they wanted. Anyway, I wish I would have known more about nutrition. Also if I had been diagnosed correctly with Poly Cycstic Overian Syndrome by a doc who knew how to treat it I think I would have been better off. But now I know and I have this great tool to work with and great support here at OH! Thanks ya'll! Sheryl
