I was a Girl Scout. I had fun, but I also remember that I was always aware that I was bigger than everyone else and less physically adept at anything. As an aside, I remember that when the neighborhood kids would pick teams for kickball, or our class would pick teams for spelling bees (which I was very good at), I was always one of the last ones picked, I'm sure because of my size.
did the usual..brownies and girl scouts (can you say COOKIES) and starting in 5th grade thru high school I was in BAND...all the geeks went to Band...I was quite good playing flute and piccolo...other than that I was NO joiner..that's for sure - my weight held me back...or my lack of confidence from my weight held me back..or both!
I was the fat kid in the Girl Scout Uniform. Then, I was the fat teenager in the Karate Uniform. I pared down for a while in my late teens because of Karate, but as soon as I graduated High School, yup, the weight started piling back on and then some. I'm looking forward to some day feeling comfortable in my own skin (even if it's saggy!).
I was never heavy as a child. I was a Girl Scout when I was in elemantary school and then spent many summers attending church camp. In junior high and high school I belonged to the roller skating club and church youth group. As an adult I was always active in the Ladies Auxillary at the fire hall, a board member at church and was a Le Leche League leader in my community for many years.
